A young widow and a single father collide in this second chance small town romance... “So we meet again,” Lily said as she all but ran into Zane during the Cherry Blossom Festival. “That we do…” Given Zane Wolfe’s reputation back in high school, Lily never imagined him as a single father to little girl. “I like flowers a lot,” Willow said. “I told Daddy I wanted more, but he said it was better to plant them at the house. That’s what we did last weekend.” “Those bulbs will turn into flowers, Lily said, crouching down to meet the girl at eye level. “And having them pop up year after year at your house is better than getting them from the flower shop.” Zane chuckled. “You’re not very good at drumming up business, are you?” Lily rose back to meet him, planting her hands on her hips. “I’m sure you know the flower shop isn’t our only business. It’s not even the one I focus on now.” “So I heard,” he said, then looked off in the distance. She didn’t have what it took to have conversations men. Not even the friendly ones, so forget about bristling men like Zane. “Man, it’s hot outside,” she said, only to change the subject. “I’m gonna go grab a lemonade.” Willow jumped up and down in place. “Lemonade! Really? I want some!” Lily smiled to cover her wince. Excusing herself to get a drink was her exit strategy, but it wasn’t Willow’s fault her father was unbearably grumpy. “My treat,” Lily said, heading over to the booth. She purchased three glasses and handed one to each of them. Zane all but sneered at the lemonade, holding it out like Lily should take it back. “I don’t like sweets,” he said. Lily didn’t care if the smile she gave him looked forced. “Then that lemonade should be perfect. It’s sour—just like you!” His scowl deepened, but when Willow burst out into giggles, his expression softened. “She called you sour, Daddy!” She giggled some more. “That’s SILLY!” Zane lifted the cup. “Thanks for the lemonade,” he said. “We better get going…” Thank God. Willow jumped between them. “Not yet!” She crossed her arms. “I like hanging out with Lily.” “I’m sure Lily has a lot to do…” He leveled his gaze at her, as if to say ‘help!’ But as insufferable as Lily found Zane, she enjoyed watching him suffer, helpless to a little girl. Lily pushed back her shoulders. “Actually, I’m totally free.” Willow folded her hands together and squeezed. “Please, Daddy?! Please can we hang out a little longer! I want to see if you guys will kiss on the Ferris wheel!” At that, both their eyes went wide, and the color draining from his face was just as surely rushing to her cheeks.
