MADDER LAKE, SPECTRUM & PHIL MANNING - THE LEGENDS OF SUNBURY BACK TOGETHER This is not a tribute show. This is the real deal. These are the real artists. Featuring the cream of Australian artists, Sunbury was touted as “The Rock Happening of its time”, with MADDER LAKE opening the 1973 festival to a rapturous response. They went on to support the” Rolling Stones” on their Australian Tour later that year and were the first act to be signed to Mushroom Records-delivering the company their first Gold Record with the brilliant album ‘Still Point’. This album spawned the singles ‘12lb. Toothbrush’ and ‘Goodbye Lollipop’. Nextup was Mike Rudd’s SPECTRUM - arguably Australia’s most popular Progressive Rock Act. Spectrum’s Number One National Hit ‘I’ll Be Gone’, released a year earlier, had already become an anthem with the Australian public– it’s since been covered by Australian artists from John Williamson to Lost Ragas and internationally by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. Mike was later to record at the famous Abbey Road Studios in England with another of his bands, Ariel, who controversially returned from the UK to play at the last Sunbury. And finally, we have the guitar maestro PHIL MANNING, well known founding member of Australia’s best Blues/Rock Band -Chain. Phil also has his Solo Career, releasing some fine critically acclaimed albums. Throughout his career He has also been a session player for many of Australia’s leading artists. He is one of our finest exponents of Blues Guitar, and features in many Guitar shows and performances with the cream of Australia’s guitar icons. Come along, re-live musical history, and celebrate the nostalgia and great music with these three Artists that still remain relevant today; and who were part of the so called ‘Golden Era of Australian Rock Music”.
