Welcome to Hair2Heart’s first official post. I’d like to introduce myself..My name is Emily Gazsi, I am a professional hairstylist/makeup artist of over 16 years. I am also the mother of 3 sons. One being the infamous @hudsonfordtough. My Son Hudson was diagnosed with Pre B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia in September 2022 at the age of 5 years old. Instead of starting kindergarten he began the fight of his life. From the moment I went numb in that conference room I knew I HAD to come up with a way to help others who faced this terrible journey of having a child with a critical heath crisis. At first I thought I wanted to completely change my career path. I thought I wanted to go back to school to become one of the heroes that helped saved not only my son, but helped saved me. Helped save me as a mother, as a wife, and as a terrified woman who just thought her main purpose in life was to stand behind the chair and make people feel pretty. I needed more purpose in life than just the surface of highlights and a haircut. I mean I was learning how to read a CBC and dissect my sons lab work to the decimal. Learning about chemotherapy side affects, the meds that subside them and pretty much obtained a pharmacy instead of your traditional medicine cabinet. Then there was that little factor of being a mom of 3, a wife, and a small business owner. I struggled with pulling the trigger of going back to school. It didn’t help my marriage was also pushing for “not a another big change” So one night I lay awake thinking about how to save my marriage, with also being my son with cancers main caregiver, a mom to the other 2 boys, oh and a small business owner in the Salon industry that I love so much. That’s when Hair2Heart was born. I will use what I already know, what I’m already good at, and bring THAT to the pediatric cancer community, heck not just the cancer community ALL pediatric inpatients AND their families. The MOMS! I have to help the moms feel pretty and help them also take their minds off of the heartbreaking reality they are facing. I would have so loved and appreciated that while I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the broken woman staring back at me.
