Mild allergic reactions vs. severe allergic reactions – a reminder of what this can look like in the context of food allergies. 🫁If there is any suggestion that your child’s Airway, Breathing or Consciousness is involved then use the AAI immediately – this is a sign of Anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction; it’s important to use AAIs at the first sign of Anaphylaxis or if in doubt. What a mild allergic reaction can look like: 👉Swollen lips 👉Itching skin 👉Hives ✔️The approach to take: the right thing to do is give antihistamines and keep a close eye. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction – how this can appear (or if there are any symptoms that makes you think the person is losing consciousness) – or if you are not sure – assume it is a severe reaction (anaphylaxis) 👀Trouble with breathing (shortness of breath) 👀Persistent cough 👀Wheezing The approach to take in the event of Anaphylaxis (or if in doubt): ✔️Lie the person down or if more comfortable sit them up: ✔️Administer adrenaline in the upper thigh muscle. ✔️Call 999 (or emergency services) and mention anaphylaxis. ✔️If symptoms don’t improve within 5 minutes, give another AAI dose. ✔️Don’t let your child stand up. ✔️Avoid activities like exercise, bathing, or alcohol consumption until fully recovered. ✔️Seek medical help, even if your child feels better. (Swipe for a reminder of the symptoms of Anaphylaxis) 🔗The NEW parent and carer leaflet can be accessed via the link in my bio; its aim is to empower and assist families, caregivers, grandparents, and anyone responsible for the care of individuals with food allergies. #anaphylaxisawareness #anaphylaxis #anixetyallergy #alwayscarrytwo #anaphylaxisawareness #epipen #jext #emerade #aai #kidswithallergies
