We had so much fun today chatting to Taj, Danny, Vincent and their families about their experiences taking part in Civic’s Gap Year program. Piloted this year, Gap Year was developed as a break between school and employment for people with intellectual and other disabilities, supporting them to take time to explore employment options and learn targeted practical and other skills needed in open employment. Over the past 12 weeks, Taj, Vincent and Danny have been working through a series of modules and exploring a variety of employment settings. Through the program, the participants have been able to identify employment goals they hadn’t previously had, and now have a clearer pathway to employment after year 12.
