Things you might not know about me and Ragmaw Bags: - My name is Megan and I started Ragmaw in 2013 - I was a full time pharmacist when I started this company, I built it slowly and wasn’t sure where I wanted it to go - I was nervous and scared when I retired from pharmacy, at 33 years old, to work full time on Ragmaw, I had no idea if the business could support me financially - Ragmaw has now been my full time career for almost a decade and it employs a team of people in Newfoundland - As the artist and owner, my hand has touched every bag that we send out; I have done some portion of the sewing on it or I have designed the fabric in it - We make all of our bags in St. John’s, NL Canada; we have a small team of seamstresses and leatherworkers at our studio - Our fabrics are exclusive to us because I draw them by hand and have them printed in Montreal for use in our bags - Each bag is an art piece - it has been worked on by myself, Natasha, Hannah, and Gary (our master leatherworker) - You can purchase my fabrics for your own projects as well - I learned to sew when I was five, my grandmother taught me, she passed away in February of this year and I feel more grateful than ever to be building a career around a passion that she gave me - I love to travel and try to take breaks from work where I can but I am always collecting inspiration wherever I go - At this stage, I’m interested in exploring fabric designs that are unexpected and really colourful + playful - For Ragmaw bags, my long term vision remains the same: make beautiful bags in Newfoundland and provide employment within my community - I hope you’ll follow along with us, we release new fabrics and bags every Thursday at 2pm eastern time!
