Women’s financial inclusion is accelerating worldwide, with millions more gaining access to bank accounts, digital payments, and mobile money services. Yet despite this progress, deep gaps remain, and 700 million women are still unbanked. The latest Global Findex 2025 findings reveal not only how far we’ve come, but what it will take to ensure every woman can fully participate in and benefit from the financial system. Key highlights: 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 ➡️ 73% of women in LMICs now have a financial account (up 7 points since 2021). ➡️ More women are saving formally (36%, up from 22%) and making digital payments (58%, up from 50%). 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 ➡️ Top obstacles for unbanked women: lack of money to open an account, high fees, reliance on a family member’s account, and distance to financial service points. 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 ➡️ Over half of women with accounts have digitally enabled access via a phone or card. ➡️ Mobile money is helping close gender gaps, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa and Bangladesh. ➡️ Digital payments are a major entry point; 60% of women opened their first account to receive a government or employer transfer. 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 ➡️ Women remain less likely than men to save, borrow, or transact digitally. ➡️ Only 9% borrow to start or operate a business, and just half use formal credit sources. ➡️ Strengthening financial resilience remains crucial: women are less likely to say they can access emergency funds when needed.

The Global Findex 2025 shows that women’s account ownership in low- and middle-income economies has reached 73%—a major gain since 2021. Yet 700 million women remain unbanked. Closing the gap requires tackling barriers and expanding access to digital financial services.
