Lime Street Hotel - our entry this year for this hotel in Belgravia won them a 'highly commended overall' prize for the Belgravia in bloom competition - the theme was 'floral fun and games' so we created a sinuous garland of moss, adorned with contorted hazel branches as a base from which to suspend a pair of squash racquets; squash is a traditional English game which actually developed in prisons as a way for inmates to get exercise in a confined space; some boys from Harrow thought it was interesting and took it outside the prison community and now it is a commonly played game; we used limes to represent the squash balls, attached to a citrus tree by the green garland, then decorated the steps in front with English garden plants. The finishing touch was the hotel representative who stood in front of the hotel handing out glasses of homemade lime squash.
