As a mother of high needs kids, here's how I set boundaries that actually work (without enabling or alienating my children) After going from total despair and frustration as a mother, and completely hitting rock bottom... Feeling like I was a failure and letting my children down and losing my precious bond with them... To (finally!) stumbling into an unbelievable breakthrough that's brought me a level of joy and connection with my kids that I had started to believe wasn't possible... I've learned that these breakthroughs can happen when we least expect it...in the most unlikely places...and most shocking of all, they can be absolutely free! But I'm jumping way ahead of myself, so let me back up and tell you how I got here... You see, I had tried *everything*. I'd bought all the books. Watched all the YouTube videos. Talked to all my friends. I'd practically beaten Google into submission with all my fruitless searches. I even went to expensive parenting seminars and hired "experts" with money I really didn't have. One morning a few months ago, I was feeling really down on myself as a mother. I was trying to wake myself up with very strong coffee after another sleepless night worried about my kids and my family. I'll never forget my 'rock bottom' moment, when I said to my best friend, fighting back tears, "I'm just grateful my kids are still alive." And I meant it 100% because I couldn't reach them no matter what I tried, and was terrified they'd end it all. Anyway, that morning over coffee, I just didn't feel the strength or energy to search for more parenting solutions...so I started mindlessly scrolling through Facebook. Then I saw it. An online conference called "Mindful Parenting For High Needs Kids" -- put on by a couple named Cecilia and Jason Hilkey who live in the state of Oregon in America. But they were offering this virtual event in a very unusual format... Because instead of focusing on themselves and their own expertise, instead they interviewed 25 of the leading parenting experts in the world...but in a very particular way. A way that not only drew out all of the most effective, proven and actionable parenting techniques that are working TODAY... But that also took parents through a very precise path for mindful parenting that actually gets results. They broke the conference into 5 separate days, each with its own theme and expert presentations that built on each other in a logical path for parents. And the craziest thing of all? They offered this conference absolutely FREE. Now, I'll admit -- I was skeptical. Like, really skeptical. I mean, how was this even possible? Since it was free, though, I figured I didn't have anything to lose. So, I registered for the conference and signed in for Day 1 -- ready to leave at a moment's notice if they started presenting the "same old stuff." But then, the most unexpected thing happened. I found myself feeling a strong connection with Cecilia and Jason. They were so open and authentic and vulnerable about their own parenting journey. They didn't leave out the hard parts -- they brought them into the light. And even though they are world-class parenting experts in their own right (they've coached over 100,000 parents in 193 countries!), they didn't make it about themselves -- instead shining the spotlight on the other experts. These are absolute parenting icons and luminaries who have been featured on CNN, The New York Times, Tedx, Fox & Friends, CNBC, ABC, Newsweek, Time, People, and OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), including: * Dr. Daniel Siegel, Psychiatrist, Author, Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute * Byron Katie, Creator of "The Work," Author of "Loving What Is" * Dr. Ross Greene, Author of "The Explosive Child," Harvard Medical School, Founder of "Lives in the Balance" * KJ Dell'Antonia, New York Times Reporter, Author of "How To be a Happier Parent" * And 21 more brilliant, heart-centered parenting experts Cecilia and Jason even released the five-day agenda in advance, each day with its own theme and corresponding speakers: Day 1: "Helping With Feelings" -- Self-compassion, mindful communication turning conflict into connection Day 2: "Creating Peace At Home" -- Help your kids identify and grow their superpowers, use conscious and positive parenting to raise competent kids Day 3: "Creating Success At School" -- Inspiration and resources to support kids who learn differently Day 4: "Addressing Anxiety, ADHD & Autism" -- Tools to minimize anxiety, help kids with ADHD succeed in school and life, how to advocate for your child and get the help they need Day 5: "Bringing It All Together" -- The Parenting Wheel of Awareness, digital parenting, turn around any stressful situation, self-control for you and your kids, using rituals to honor life transitions Now, I'll admit -- when I saw all of this, I was really excited, but also overwhelmed. I mean, how was I going to absorb all of this and actually put it into action? But I figured I'd already hit rock bottom -- what did I have to lose? So I took a deep breath, registered for the conference, and said a silent prayer that my parenting struggles would be solved. There was literally *nothing* more important to me than regaining my connection with my kids and helping them thrive. And I am thrilled (and beyond grateful!) to share that all of my prayers -- and then some -- were answered. Right from the very first session in Day 1 of the conference, I could tell this was going to change everything for me and my family. And to make a long story short, that's exactly what happened. I put what I learned into action and soon after the conference, I met up with my best friend again (The one who I recently told over tears of heartache that I was just glad my kids were still alive) But this time it was tears of JOY flowing as I told her "I got my life back. I got my kids back. I got ME back. We're a family again." This conference changed absolutely EVERYTHING for me and my family and ways I could have only dreamed of...and I have no doubt it can do the same for you 🙏
