Camping etiquette isn’t complicated — but it matters. After travelling and listening to many campers (and landowners), one thing is clear: our camp sites only stay open when we all respect the basics. Here are a few reminders from real experiences around Australia: 🌿 Leave no trace Pick up your rubbish. Don’t dump wipes, nappies or pads into toilets or dump points — it clogs the system and gets sites shut down fast. 🔥 Respect nature Don’t cut branches or pull down vegetation for firewood or to “expand” your campsite. Use existing fire pits and follow fire bans. 🚗 Drive responsibly No burnouts, no creating your own tracks, and no ripping up the campsite with 4WDs. Tracks cost thousands to repair — and councils close them when damage gets out of hand. 🐕 Control your pets Farm stays and bush camps often have horses, cattle and wildlife. Even the “my dog would never do that” dogs can chase, bite or spook animals — leading to serious injuries or worse. Always keep dogs on a leash and respect property rules. 🤝 Share the space Keep noise reasonable at night, don’t block other campers' access, and leave facilities clean for the next person.
