My mom married my bully NEVEAH “It’s just another year, you can do this.” I whispered to myself as I walked past the large gates that led into Frostmoor High, the most prestigious academy for wolves of high status. I tried to keep my head down and go unnoticed as I walked up the stairs leading into the building, struggling to blend it so badly so the students scattered around wouldn’t notice me. I could only imagine the kind of horrible pranks my school mates had planned to make my life miserable because as long as I could remember, everyone in Frostmoor High picked on the weak omega girl the school had admitted as a charity outreach to other packs. “Four eyed weakling”, “Ugly duckling”, “School’s charity case”, those were the names most people called me here in Frostmoor High and today was the first day of another school year. “Oh My Goodness! Kael’s here!” I heard one of the girls shriek as a black sleek limo pulled up in front of the school building and the girls, giggling wildly, rushed to surround it. My entire body tensed up as my grip on my bag tightened, on impulse, I rushed inside as fast as my legs could handle and didn’t stop running until I was in front of my locker. I knew exactly who Kael was and he was someone I was determined to do everything to avoid. “Get to class, keep your head down and run back as soon as school is over.” I rehearsed my plan out loud over and over again. I took a deep breath and inserted my passcode but as soon as I pulled open the door, a loud explosive sound erupted from inside and I gasped in shock when I felt something splash against my face. The stench from the rotten eggs that was now dripping down my face filled my nostrils and my stomach churned aggressively but I didn’t even get the chance to recover from it before I felt something slam against the back of my head. I turned around just in time for another one to hit me directly on the face and the flour trapped inside the little balloon, spilled all over me. “Crawl back to the hole you came out from.” Someone yelled as more balloons filled with flour rained down on me. My throat stung so bad, my entire body was covered in flour and rotten eggs and I couldn’t even protect myself from the students that had rallied around me, throwing all kinds of things at me. All I could do was just stand there, wincing in pain as tears poured down my face. “Did you really think we would forget about our pathetic little omega.” A cold voice dripping with mockery filled my ears and my entire body froze at the sound of that voice. Sabrina Thornvale, the hottest gamma in the entire academy walked up to me, her entire clique of friends following closely behind her with smug looks on their faces and before I could say a word, she shoved me back so hard that I slammed my head against my locker. The pain shot through me as I crumbled to the floor, a searing pain spreading from my skull to my spine. “Nobody wants you here, four eyes.” She hissed as she bent down and snatched my glasses away from me. “N-No… please Sabrina, I can’t see without those glasses.” I cried out loud, pathetically as I tried to take them back but the other girls held me down, chuckling like they were having the best time of their lives. My vision was now blurry and I could no longer clearly see the faces of the people before me. “I didn’t even think you would show your face here again, not after what happened the last time.” Sabrina said and my heart skipped a beat. “Get ready, I’ll make this year even worse than the last for you and I won’t stop until you stop showing your ugly face here, your kind isn’t welcomed here.” She added and a slight tremor raced down my spine. With that, she tossed my glasses on the floor and brought her heels down heavily on it. The sound of the glasses breaking filled my ears and my heart dipped towards my stomach as tears sprang to my eyes. No! That was my last pair and those glasses cost a fortune. I had to work three part time jobs to be able to pay for those. I crumbled to my knees as Sabrina walked away with her friends, their laughter echoing down the hall. My entire body trembled lightly as the sobs racked through me but at that moment, the bell rang and I knew I had to get to class. But my eyes would practically be useless without those glasses. With my arms outstretched, I tried to find my way to class but one of the students standing next to me suddenly pulled open his locker and I bumped right into it. Laughter rang out through the hall as everyone seemed to be amused by my predicament. Hot tears stung the corners of my eyes and I was tempted to just collapse right there on the floor and burst into tears but I knew that was only going to make it worse. A familiar scent hit me as the doors burst open and three boys walked in. I didn’t need eyes to know who had just walked in, Kael Smith, the school’s golden boy, impeccable grades, Alpha’s heir, the school’s hockey captain and my biggest bully. A shiver raced down my spine as goosebumps popped out all over me. With each step, he drew closer and all I could do was pray for the moon goddess to just let the ground open up and swallow me because Kael was worse than the entire school combined. “What’s wrong? You don’t like my welcome back gift?” His harsh voice filled my ears as he came to a halt in front of me. His presence seemed to suck the very air around me because I could no longer breathe. I dared not look him in the face, omegas could never stand the aura around Alphas. But as I glanced down at my toes that now looked blurry, that was when my brain registered what he had just said, He planned this? I should have known. No one takes so much delight in my misery except for Kael. “Don’t worry, I have something even more special planned for lunch.” He whispered and my heart beat intensified but before he could do anything, the bell rang again and everyone in the hallway began to scurry off to class. “Have fun in class.” A female voice came from behind me and I spun around immediately to find one of Sabrina’s minions emptying a large jug of water inside my locker. “My books!” I cried out but she simply looked me over with disdain and walked away, chuckling to herself. I was helplessly standing in the middle of the locker room, covered in flour and rotten eggs, my books drenched and without my glasses, could the day get any worse? But deep down, I knew that whatever Kael had planned for lunch would be even worse. I had no idea how long I sat in the bathroom, crying, but it was long enough for the janitor to notice me and send me out so she could clean. I had nothing else to wear and couldn’t possibly go to class with the stench so she offered me a spare overall she wore while she worked. It was all I had so I took it and made my way to the second class for the day. “What the hell are you wearing, Miss Knight?” The teacher growled as her eyes flashed with rage, “detention for the rest of the week.” Great! “Just… sit.” She snapped and the other students giggled as I made my way to the back of the class, barely keeping myself from sinking into the overall I was wearing. “Oh and…” her words got cut off as the door opened and my eyes widened in horror as Kael walked in. The teacher simply bowed slightly in his presence before she turned her attention back to the other students. What was he doing here? Why was he here? I could hear my own heart beating loudly as my hands began to tremble lightly underneath my desk. As he walked past me, my heart doubled over and I flinched thinking he was going to do something to me when he surprisingly sat down on the seat right behind me. Why was the moon goddess doing this to me? Of all the students that could have joined this class, why did it have to be him? Throughout the class, I sat frozen in place, not daring to even move my neck and as soon as it was over, I hid under the bleachers in the field until it was time to go home. I was already late for work due to the detention and was afraid Kael had something planned so I ran as fast as possible but I barely got past the parking lot when an unfamiliar, expensive looking car pulled up in front of me. And to my surprise, my mom stepped down from it. It’s been four weeks since I last saw her, Mom no longer paid any attention to me, ever since Dad died and we moved here for my scholarship. I was basically fending for myself. She was rarely at home and whenever she was, she was always desperate to leave. “Get in.” Mom snapped at me as she grabbed my arm roughly and forced me inside. “Mom?” What's going on? How did you get this car?” I asked, worried she had gotten into some kind of trouble or something. She didn’t respond, she simply drove off and the ride was silent until she diverted from the main road onto a private one and the pack house, the largest mansion in the entire pack, came into view. My breath caught in my throat, what were we doing here? Only the Alpha and people of status could come here. “Mom wha-“ “Shut up and listen to me Nevaeh,” she snapped, cutting me off as she got down from the car, pulling me along with her, “I could have left you to rot back home but I didn’t so you’re going to do everything I tell you to. From today onwards, we have a new family and if you dare to even think about ruining this for me, you’ll be back on the streets before that happens.” My brows furrowed in confusion, what was she saying? We had no relatives, no one other than ourselves. “What do you mean by…” “I am getting married.” She announced and those words knocked the air right out of my lungs. Before I could react, the large doors opened and a tall, intimidating man stepped out with his arms outstretched and to my horror, Mom walked right into his embrace and kissed him passionately. “So good to finally meet you Nevaeh,” He said with a warm smile but the aura he exuded made me tremble and I took a step back, my eyes dropping to the floor. Was he the… The sound of a car pulling up behind me forced me to glance back and a familiar limo came to halt right beside me. The door opened and Kael stepped down. My heart skipped a beat, what the hell was he doing here? Was this really the… “Finally on time Kael.” “Hey, Dad.” Kael waved at him. “Nevaeh, I want you to meet my son, Kael.” The man holding onto mom said and the whole world began to spin in front of me. What the hell was going on? How did mom end up with the Alpha? Not just any Alpha, but my bully’s dad?! 2. An inescapable fate NEVAEH This had to be some sort of joke! The moon goddess might have screwed up my life in a lot of ways but this was just going too far. There was no way Kael Drakenwood was going to be my stepbrother. How the hell did Mom, a low level Omega meet the Alpha? How on earth was it even possible that he, the Alpha, was going to marry her? There were thousands of men out there, why did it have to be the Alpha? Why did it have to be Kael’s Dad? Seeing him in school was bad enough, but having to also see and endure his pranks at home too was another level of torture. “Nevaeh,” Mom’s suddenly tender tone cut through my thoughts and I was forced back to reality, “let’s go inside.” She added sweetly, signaling for me to follow them up the flight of stairs that led into the pack house. I simply nodded, too stunned by the whole thing to even piece together a proper response. I had been so lost in thought that I had almost forgotten that Kael was still standing right there, next to me. He took a step up the stairs and paused, then he slowly turned to lock eyes with me. My body lit up in flames under his intense gaze and goosebumps popped out all over me as the memories of what had happened back in school flashed across my mind, It was bad enough that I had to attend the same school with such a horrible person but being forced to live with that same person was a special kind of torture, especially when the person in question was your bully. If surviving senior high was so damn difficult, how exactly was I supposed to survive living under the same roof with him? As if he could read my thoughts, a mischievous grin cut across his lips and before I could even react; he turned around and made his way into the pack house. Taking a deep breath and forcing my feet to move, I climbed up the stairs after them, ignoring the voice in my head yelling at me to turn around and run as far away as possible from Kael. The moment I stepped into the mansion, I got carried away by how mindblowing the interior decor was. Intricately carved chandeliers hug from the ceiling, gigantic and breathtaking art portraits lined the walls and everything, from the floor to the ceiling was clearly expensive. I had no idea how blown away I was while gawking at everything until I bumped right into someone. “Sorry. I am so sorry.” I bowed my head and kept apologizing over and over again until I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder and I dared to lift my head. “It’s okay Nevaeh. This is your home now so I want you to get comfortable. Look around and take in everything, I can get one of the maids to give you a tour if that’s what you want.” Kael’s Dad offered with a smile on his face but before I could even refuse, Mom’s stern voice cut me off. “That’s not necessary babe, I’ll show her around.” Her tone sounded loving but I could tell she was irritated due to how harshly she was glaring at me. I apologized one more time before running after Mom who was now headed up the stairs. The marble floors and the golden designs on the stairs left me speechless. I didn’t even know houses like this existed! “This will be your room from now on.” Mom said as she came to a halt in front of a large door. Slowly, she pushed it open and my breath caught in my lungs as the princess like room came into view. Subtle colors collided perfectly with the tasteful designs. The bed positioned in the middle of it was king sized and there was still so much space left. The Alpha had to be the richest man alive. “How is this even possible? How did you meet him? How is this even happening?” The questions rolled out of me all at once because I couldn’t even hold back any longer, it all still felt like a dream. A bad yet beautiful dream that I would wake up from. “Listen Nev,” Mom’s harsh tone snapped me out of my trance as she grabbed my arm roughly, her nails digging into my flesh, “I meant every word I said back in the car, if you try to ruin this for me, I’ll throw you out without a second thought. You should be grateful I even considered bringing you here because I could easily have left you to rot in the hell hole your wretched father left you in.” She spat, her voice filled with so much hatred and disdain. That wasn’t new. That wasn’t the first time Mom spoke about Dad in such a manner. She hated him so much for being a lowly omega and tried countless times to leave him but couldn’t because she had nowhere else to go and worse still, she was mated to him. She hated that more than anyone else so when Dad died, it was like a breath of fresh air for her and she always seized every opportunity to remind me that Dad left us nothing so whatever crumbs she handed over to me, I should be more than grateful for it. So I knew for a fact that her hatred for Dad transferred to me after he died and it didn’t help matters that I looked so much like him. “Really Mom? You show up out of the blue and spring something like this and I’m supposed to just accept it? A new dad? A new family? Just like that?” I began, “I’ve barely seen you in months. You don’t even know how things are going with me, you didn’t even ask how I am feeling or how things are going in school and you just do this, without asking me? That’s selfish.” I cried out but she simply hissed and shoved me back, as if she hated the fact that she was holding me. “Selfish?” Her voice shook dangerously, “selfish would be leaving you to rot in that hole you call a house. Selfish would be forgetting you even exist so if you know what’s good for you, you will keep your mouth shut and do as I say.” I stared at her in disbelief as I fought back the tears in my eyes. “How can you even call yourself a mother?” I asked and she didn’t even give me a chance to say anything else before she raised her hand high up in the air and brought it down heavily on my right cheek. I gasped in shock and stumbled back, too stunned to speak but no longer able to hold back the tears. It rolled down my cheeks effortlessly and my throat burned. “Don’t you ever talk to me like that, not in my house and if you ever let Alpha Kade hear you speak about our past life or that miserable father of yours again, I’ll personally throw you out.” She added spitefully before she turned and made for the door. Just as she pulled open the door, she glanced back at me, “You can decide to continue living like an animal Nevaeh but I refuse to go down that road with you.” She slammed the door afterwards and I was left in the silence, crumbling to the floor and sobbing profusely. How could so much have changed in just one day? Why do I have to live under the same roof with the same person I dreaded the most in the entire world, the same person I would do anything to avoid. I have no idea how long I remained on the floor like that but by the time I was finally able to get up, I felt so out of place in the outrageously large room. It was clearly for me because it had been designed specifically to suit a female but for some reason, I missed my small space back at home. I missed how life was before Dad died, before Frostmoor and Kael Drakenwood ruined it. My body felt so sticky due to the eggs and flour so I had to get out of the janitor’s overalls and take a shower. It was a long, warm shower that made me forget about my problems for the few minutes that I was in there. With a towel wrapped around my body, I stepped into the room and began to search for something to wear but the wardrobe was empty and there was nothing I could possibly… “What took you so long?” Kael’s annoyingly smooth voice suddenly filled my ears and I spun around sharply to find him casually leaning against the door, his muscular arms folded across his chest. I had no idea the door was open. I didn’t even notice him standing there when I stepped out of the shower, My eyes widened in shock and the all too familiar feeling of fear crawled up my spine as I staggered backwards, away from him. “G-Get out.” I stammered, unsure of what to expect from him now that I was in his territory. I instinctively grabbed onto the short towel wrapped around my body, holding on tightly as if my life depended on it as I watched his every move because if I knew one thing about Kael, it was that he always had a prank up his sleeves for me. His eyes shone mischievously as they swept over the length of my body with a look in them that made me immediately regret agreeing to stay here. “Alphas don’t ask permission from omegas to go anywhere in their pack house.” He said as he pushed himself off the doorframe and began to walk toward me. I reacted immediately, scrambling back as far as I could but in that moment, the room that had been so large suddenly became too small, too small to help me get away from him. “Your Mom wants you downstairs for dinner.” He added. “I’ll be right there.” I replied sharply, hoping he would just turn and walk away but as usual, the devil didn’t. He kept coming closer and his eyes kept drifting down my body, “So… stepsister,” that word rolled off his lips with mockery, “I am really looking forward to living under the same roof with you, right down the hall from you and most especially, having to see you without those hideous uniforms of yours on.” He added with an intense look that would have probably made the girls in school giggle and blush but not me. Kael Drakenwood had never made me blush before, not when I had experienced first hand, the kind of devil he was. Instead, a shiver raced down my spine because I knew exactly what he meant. My hands flew around my body, trying to cover as much skin as I could but that only made him chuckle darkly before he leaned closer, so close that I tried to get away but only ended up slamming my back against the wall and being trapped between his body and the wall. I could feel the heat from him, his breath on me but I dared not look him in the eyes so I kept my eyes glued to his lips, swallowing as hard as I could while my knuckles ached due to how tightly I was gripping onto them. “Do you know the animal I love hunting the most?” He asked and his presence and intoxicating scent seemed to have sucked all the air in the room because I could no longer breathe. “Rabbits.” He whispered softly as his fingers ran through my hair, making me flinch, “they’re so soft, naive and much more fun to hunt because they scare easily. Very easy creatures to break.” My eyes squeezed shot and I was suffocating so bad that without thinking, I reached out and tried to shove him back but the moment my hand touched his chest, an electrifying sensation shot up arm and a gasp slipped from me. He flinched and I jerked my hands back immediately. I had no idea what that was but feeling his muscular body under my palms was not something I had prepared myself for. A frown creased his brows but it disappeared as immediately as it appeared before he leaned closer to me, his face barely an inch away from mine, “I do not intend to start the hunt today so do not make me come back up here to get you, little rabbit.“ A deadly tremor clung to his tone and it wasn’t until he slammed the door shut behind him before I felt the rush of air hit my lungs again. I inhaled sharply, crumbling to the floor. Was I really going to live in the same house with Kael Drakenwood? 3. She is my name and now my stepsister KAEL It’s been a year already, a year since I found out that Nevaeh was my mate. She was seated right next to me at the dinner table and it took almost everything in me to keep myself under control because my wolf was finding it difficult to control himself around her. But it had also been a year since that incident with Travis happened, since I saved her from the asshole that had been eager to devour her when she passed out at the school’s party. A reality that she would never find out because I would rather die than admit to anyone that she was mine. Travis was my bestfriend and I could still hear him in my ears, telling me how good she tasted when he had fucked her right there in the school’s janitor closet because according to him, Nevaeh was Frostmoor’s Whore. The lowly omega that went around sleeping with everyone and everything. My fists clenched tightly underneath the table and a low growl slipped from my wolf at the mere thought of it. The fact that she had let those bastards touch her infuriated me every single time. How could she be so dumb? It was one thing to be weak but an Alpha having a whore for a mate was not something I had planned for myself so I hid that truth from everyone… including myself. It became a broken part of me that I carried around and even though it was beginning to get so difficult to ignore it, I hatched a plan that was going to make things so much better and that was to make her feel my pain, my rage at what she had done. Teasing her at first was something I enjoyed so when the whole school joined in, a part of me was relieved that no one would be interested in her anymore, no one would want to touch the omega girl that was constantly being ridiculed by the whole school, but then… “Hey listen man, if you’re ever interested in her, just let me know. I could make her wait back after school so you can get a taste of her.” Travis had joked one day in the locker room, just before a big game while he explained to the other guys how good it felt every single time he slept with her. I barged out of the room that day and during the game, I had intentionally collided so hard against Travis that I almost made him break a few bones on the ice while making it look like it was a mistake. We lost the match and I had almost killed my best friend because of a girl that wasn’t even worth it but after that day, I swore to myself that I would never give a fuck about Nevaeh again. I swore to myself that I would rather take the secret of her being my mate to my grave than claim her, not after all this. “Kael, can you help Navaeh pick out some of the decorations after dinner?” Dad’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I became aware of my surroundings again. I nodded, unable to speak because for some reason, even after I had swore never to acknowledge our mate bond, my eyes kept drifting back down to the sight of her smooth long legs underneath the table. Her skin glowed softly and seeing her like this for the first time since I’d known her made me feel a different kind of way. Absent-mindedly, I reached out and touched her bare skin, my hands sliding over it in a manner that made my wolf growl in satisfaction. She flinched and her eyes widened in horror. But what sent a painful jab through my chest was the fact that she tried to move away from my touch, the look on her face told me just how much she hated me touching her. I felt my blood boil underneath my skin. The idea that she could let Travis and every other asshole in school fuck her and then act like my touch was so repulsive made me to grab her hair right there at the dinner table, force her to look at me and tell me why she had done that. But even with the adrenaline coursing through my veins due to the sensations colliding inside of me because of the touch, I couldn’t do anything but keep myself and my wolf under control because of my Dad. Even though I was unsure of how long I would be able to do that with her now living right down the hall from me. She was trying so hard to avoid me, I could see it, she kept her distance while we helped her Mom pick out colors for the wedding and I couldn’t help but notice how isolated she seemed from her Mom but maybe it was simply because she was nervous about me being right there. “You should give Naveah a ride to school.” Dad suggested the next morning and I could see her trembling right there, like the idea of being in the same car with me was so terrible. I had no choice but to agree to it and a few minutes later, we were speeding down the road in my sports car towards school. She kept holding on tightly to her skirt, fidgeting in her seat and acting like I was some kind of wolf that was ready to pounce on her any moment. Like she was so damn innocent! What did she take me for? One of those bastards that she stupidly gave her body to in school. My hands on the wheel tightened. Unable to take it any longer, I slammed my feet on the brakes and brought the car to a halt. The school’s towering building was already visible but we were still a bit far from it. “Get out!” I growled without even turning to look at her and the way she flinched every single time she heard my voice twisted my gut in a way that I utterly despised. Why was I even bothered about her? She didn’t mean anything to me. “I…” “Just because we’re step siblings doesn’t mean anything is going to change. You’re still the lowly omega to me and if you dare breathe a word to anyone in school about this, I’ll kill you myself.” I threatened and didn’t bother to see if my threat had any effect on her because I knew just how much she was afraid of me. I’d seen that look so many times in her eyes while she whored herself out to everyone else. “Now, get lost!” I snapped and she scurried out as fast as she could before I drove off, fighting against every nerve in my body that wanted me to glance back at her in the rear view mirror. 4. Victim NEVAEH I froze when Kael ordered me out of his car. What did I even expect? That he'd risk his spotless reputation for the same lowly omega he used to bully in school? A sharp pang cut through my chest, and I hated that disappointment was even part of it. He hates me. He couldn't stand the sight of me and that was no news. But when he agreed to take me to school, a part of me felt relieved. I had hoped maybe staying under his roof would be a little different, but who was I kidding? His car roared to life as he sped off without sparing me a second glance and a sigh escaped my parted lips. I could see the school building from where I stood but it'd take at least fifteen minutes to get there. I knew this because I walked to school every day. Shit. My heart slammed against my rib when I checked the time. Class would start in five minutes. Even if I were to run, I wouldn't make it on time. I couldn't afford to piss off my teacher, so I ran anyway. I was drenched in sweat by the time I got to school. I hurried into my class, hoping it would be one of those days the teacher got caught up with something and arrived late, but who was I kidding? My gaze met with a stoic one the moment I pushed the door open. “Class started ten minutes ago. Why are you just coming?” A frown creased his brows as he spoke. “I… erm…” I hesitated for a moment, knowing no one cares about my sob story or why I was in the car with a certain person to begin with, let alone why he sent me out in the middle of the road. “I'm sorry, sir,” I apologized quickly. He didn't look a bit impressed, but thankfully, he didn't dwell on it either. “Go to your seat and don't disrupt my class.” He turned back to the board, ignoring me now and I went to my seat before he'd change his mind. I went to my seat only to find the infamous Kael Drakenwood, sitting there with a smirk on his face. Bile rose to my throat. I wanted to wrap my hands around his neck but instead, I forced myself to take the empty seat in front of him and a satisfied smirk tugged at his lips. Fucking asshole. The class went on, but I could barely keep up with what the teacher was saying. Kael's gaze burned my neck. I could feel his stare without looking and it made my skin crawl. I raised my hands to gain the teacher's attention, when I felt a sudden pull in my hair. My loose bun unraveled, making hair spill down my back. I didn't need to look back to know who it was. Kael fucking Drakenwood. My fist clenched as I turned to face him. “What was that for?” I tried to sound steady, but my voice cracked at the end. He feigned an innocent look when the teacher turned back and caught me speaking to him. “Whitlock, do you have something to say to the class?” He raised his brows and I shook my head quickly. “N-no, sir.” “You came to school late. I was lenient enough to ask you to sit without any punishment and you're just going to disturb my class? If you're not interested in what we're doing here, why didn't you just stay back at home?” His eyes shone with annoyance. I parted my lips to speak but the disdainful look on his face was enough to shut me up. “I'm sorry, sir,” I mumbled under my breath. “You know the rules, Whitlock. Detention. 2 hours after school.” He added. “Any more troubles and you won't be getting just detention this time,” he threatened. “P-p-please sir, I promise I won't…” “Another word and not only will I make the hours longer, you'd be banned from entering my class till the end of this session.” I knew he wasn't bluffing. My finger dug into my palm so hard that I could feel the pain radiating through my being, but I simply nodded. I bolted out of class the second the teacher left before anyone could decide to pick on me today. I've had enough for one day. I went to the cafeteria to grab my lunch and every table was already filled. Not that I minded though, I was already used to eating alone at the rooftop. I grabbed my tray to leave when Sabrina stopped me. “Going somewhere?” She said, smugness wrapped around her words. Every eye in the cafeteria turned. Sabrina Thornvale didn't speak to the likes of me unless she was about to make a scene. I took a step back instinctively and she chuckled. “Aw, are you scared?” She tutted. I took a step back with each step she took forward and her eyes gleamed with amusement. I didn't notice the foot stuck out behind me until I tripped and crashed on the floor. The clattering of plates filled the air and everyone burst into a fit of laughter. “You're so stupid,” Sabrina shook her head, trying to hold back her smile. “You really think you could run from me?” She grabbed a plate from the table and I closed my eyes, waiting for what was coming. “You see that?” I didn't have to open my eyes to know she was pointing. “That is where she belonged,” Sabrina spat. I shuddered as something cold trickled from my hair down to my neck. Hot tears stung my vision. I turned, blinking my tears away and immediately wished I didn't. Kael stood there with folded arms, watching the scene with a signature smirk on his lip. I sprinted out of the cafeteria before I could embarrass myself any further. The rest of the day blurred. Normally, I couldn't wait to leave, but today I had two hours of detention to look forward to. By the time I left the school, everywhere was completely dark. I hugged my backpack to my chest as I walked down the empty street. My heart pounded in my chest. Something felt wrong… the street didn’t look familiar anymore. Tears streamed down my cheeks. I turned around frantically, looking for help, but everywhere was dark and I was all alone. “No one would even notice if I vanished," my throat tightened at the thought and I couldn't stop my tears. I ran back, trying to find my way to school then at least someone would find me there when I ran into three men. My blood ran cold, and my legs came to a halt abruptly. They were rogues. Their smell says it all and the smug smirk on their faces told me to run. I backed away instinctively and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. “Stop there!” “You're not getting away from us!” They yelled from behind. “Help!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs even though I knew it was an empty alley. “Somebody help!” “No one is coming to save you,” one of them laughed from behind. They were too fast. There was no way I'd get away. A stream of tears trickled down my cheeks when I hit my leg on a stone and a scream tore my throat. I feel hard on my butt. My body shook violently, and my heart burned knowing no one was coming to save me. “You should have just stayed still,” one of the men hissed. “We'd have gone easy on you.” Blood trickled down my feet and I think I had twisted my legs. It is over. They lurched forward, a sick smile playing on their lips and my stomach churned in disgust. “No need for pretense. I know you want this.” I snapped my eyes closed. My breath hitched as my hands curled into a fist. For once, I wished my wolf would come out and protect me, when a cold voice spoke from behind. “Touch even a strand of her hair, and I'd make you pay for it.” 5. Pushing her luck NEVAEH For the first time in my life, I was excited to see Kael Drakenwood. He stood in front of me protectively, daring the rogues to take another step. His claws were set in place, muscles flexed, and I could tell he was ready to pounce on them. “Let's get out of here,” one of the rogues whispered, dragging back the other two who seemed equally ready to fight. “That is what I thought,” he snarled. His teeth clenched in annoyance and a wave of relief washed over me. “This is all a misunderstanding,” another one said with a forced smile. “We were only trying to help her. No need to get all worked up.” He raised his hands in surrender. Kael didn't lower his guard until they backed off and went back to wherever they came from. I exhaled a breath I didn't realize I was holding when Kael turned to face me. “Are you hurt?” He scanned my body for any visible injury and he let out a low growl when he saw the dried blood on my knee. “I shouldn't have allowed them to get away so easily,” he muttered under his breath. I flinched the moment his hands made contact with the spot and he pulled away angrily. Sabrina had done worse right under his nose. Why was he suddenly mad? His muscles clenched, or maybe I was overthinking it again. “I'm fine,” I mumbled under my breath. I tried to stand on my own but winced from the pain that shot through my veins. He lunged forward to hold me steady in an instant, his eyes softened for a split second before he withdrew his hands and his frown grew bigger. “Are you that desperate for attention, Nevaeh?” The words sliced through me before I could even blink. I blinked once. Twice, I tried to understand the sudden change of mood when I noticed the closeness between us. His head hung low, just a few inches away from mine, eyes pierced into mine, hard and unreadable. I wanted to look away but something in his gaze held me still. “W-what are you talking about?” I stuttered. A flash of hurt flickered in his eyes before he took a step back. I missed the warmth from his body even though he wasn't exactly touching me and I didn't know where the thought was even coming from. “Do you enjoy male attention so much that you'd go after rogues now that no one would pay attention to you in school?” he shot me a disgusting look and I scoffed in disbelief. I shook my head, trying to put the pieces together and all I could do was scoff. “You think I wanted this?” I spat. Bile rose to my throat as I continued. “You actually think I'd lure rogues out just to… get your attention?” My goodness! Who does he think he is? “Keal Drakenwood, duh!” The sarcastic voice in my head tutted. Did he even realize how scared I was? How happy I was to see my biggest bully come to my saving? As much as I hated to admit it, I got away tonight because of him. My stomach churned at the thought of them laying their filthy hands on me and I let out a laugh that barely reached my face, but he didn't even blink. “So what then?” His lips curled. “Am I your next target? Did you plan this, hoping I'd swoon on again?” Again? What the hell does that even mean? Like I'd take his help if I had a choice. He took a step closer, his hard gaze burning into mine, and for the first time, I didn't back away. “How the hell was I supposed to know you'd show up?” I shot back. “You didn't care when you threw me out of your car this morning. Or when I had to run just to avoid punishment. Or when I got detention because of you… You… pulled my fucking hair!” My blood boiled with each word I spoke and I caught a glimpse of amusement in his eyes before it was replaced with a look I couldn't quite decipher. “So, are you saying it was my fault?” His brows drew together as he took a step closer. I wondered if it'd kill him to admit he was wrong. “Is it?” My eyes locked with him in a challenge. “I saved you, Navaeh.” The way my name rolled off his tongue sent chills down my spine, but I didn't dare back away. Not when I finally stood up for myself. “Is that your idea of gratitude?” “You don't get to call it saving when you're the reason I am out here in the first place,” I hissed. “Really?” A lazy smile tugged his lips and I couldn't help but admire his fine line. It's such a shame his looks got nothing on his personality. “I guess you wouldn't be needing my help to get back home then. Good luck limping all the way back.” He turned on his heels before I could react, leaving me all alone in the empty alley. Great! Just what I needed. I tried to run after him so I wouldn't get lost again, but a wave of pain shot through my veins with each step I took and I ended up resting my weight on my other leg, which made me walk even more slowly. Thankfully, I was able to navigate my way back to the pack house after asking at least three people on my way. The tall building was already in view when I heard a car honking at me. I turned towards the direction, and there goes my saving grace. “Get in,” he ordered. “What?” The pack house was barely five minutes walk from here and now he wanted to help me? Didn't he just leave me in the middle of nowhere? Wait. He wasn't actually waiting for me, was he? I eyed him weirdly. As if he could read my thoughts he cleared me in an instant. “Don't flatter yourself. Father would question me if I went home without you so get in already.” So he really did wait for me. A part of me wanted to turn down his offer, but I had pushed my luck enough for one day. Kael wouldn't let me off the hook so easily and I can't afford anymore of his wrath, moreover my leg was an aching mess. I hopped in hesitantly, pulling down my skirt to cover my legs, when he scoffed beside me. “As if…” He drove into the mansion and I couldn't wait to hide inside my room. Mom and Alpha Zane were at the lunge, laughing at a joke one of them made when they noticed how present. “You're back,” Alpha Kael said with a smile. I nodded politely, avoiding my mother's gaze when I noticed the boxes in the room. “Are you heading somewhere?” Kael asked, voicing my thoughts. Alpha Zane looked at my mother lovingly and I tapped on my feet impatiently, waiting for them to release me. He held her hands before turning to face Kael and I. “The love of my life,” he said, kissing my mother's hands and she smiled creepily at him. Not once did she look at my father like that. They whispered into each other's ear and my mother blushed at his words. “Okay…” Kael seemed just as impatient as I was and mother gave him an apologetic smile. “Your dad and I have decided to go away for our honeymoon. Having fun, spending quality time together, you know? Just the two of us. And it'd help you two get even closer within that period,” she said with a smile. “Okay,” Kael said in a bored tone. “How long will you be gone?” The two looked at each other for a split second and Alpha Zane was the one that spoke this time. “Three months.” 6. I am not a sl*t KAEL It's been two days since Father went on a vacation with Rose. The mansion is pretty much mine to control and suddenly, the idea of them being away for three months doesn't sound like such a bad idea. I had thought of at least a thousand ways to make Nevaeh's life hell and making her do the house chores wasn't enough. For some reason, I just wanted to see her around even if it meant punishing her every single time we met. My presence scares the living shit out of her so even if she wanted, she wouldn't dare report me to anyone and that just made all of this more interesting. Not only would she bow to me in school, she also lived by my rules at home. She's basically mine to control, and that felt awfully reassuring than anything else in the world. I headed downstairs, taking two stairs at a time when Nevaeh came out of her room. She was wearing one of those hideous gowns that could make even a goddess look plain. I didn't know why she bothered though, because with a face like hers, men would look twice. My wolf growled low in my chest at the thought of other men looking at her. No matter how hard I tried to suppress him, he'd always react at the slightest sense of her, and that is something I'd have to deal with until I can finally break the bond for good. “I'm outside.” Travis texted, and my gaze darted to Nevaeh. A part of me wanted to come up with an excuse to get him to leave because coming here meant seeing Nevaeh, and I wasn't ready to deal with whatever that'd stir up, but that is my fucking best friend. It's bad enough that I was mated to the school slut. I shouldn't allow her to ruin my friendship with others. “Hey,” I called out, gaining her attention. She was still limping from the leg she got hurt yesterday and just thinking about it made my wolf twitch. She turned at the sound of my voice and swallowed hard. Once our parents left, she hid in her room and didn't come out unless I sent for her. I heard she had been skipping meals too. She seemed pretty determined to avoid me at all costs, but I'd like to see how long she could keep that up. “The maids must be done cooking. Serve the table,” I barked. She flinched from my cold voice but didn't need to be told twice before hurrying away. She disappeared into the kitchen when the bell rang. One of the maids opened the door and my face lit up at the sight of Travis. “Motherfucker!” I jumped on him, earning a throaty chuckle from him. “Missed me that much? I was only away for a week,” he teased. “Right? Grow some tits and ass and I'd never let you out of my sight.” Travis feigned a hurt look before we burst into a fit of laughter. The clattering of plates drew my attention to the dining room as Nevaeh set the table. Travis's eyes followed mine and I didn't miss the way he looked at her from the corner of my eyes. His brows drew together in a ‘really” look as he turned to face me. “You're hitting on her now? Dude! Are pussies that scarce?” His eyes glinted in amusement and my jaw clenched. My wolf lunged violently and it took everything to stop him from pouncing on him. If Travis got the wrong impression it'd ruin my reputation. He might be my best friend but dude's mouth is loose as fuck. He can't keep a secret, let alone one that the entire school would kill for. “As if,” I pulled away from him and tossed him a glare. “Long story short, we're stepsiblings.” I headed to the dining. The excitement from earlier had faded away and I just wanted to have lunch then find an excuse to send Travis off. If Nevaeh heard Travis's comment from earlier, she didn't react to it. She simply served our food. She didn't even spare him a glance the entire time which was shocking considering how clingy Travis said she was. “I'll be in the room if you need anything else,” her head hung low as she spoke. I stretched my leg here out, and just like I had expected, she fell with a thud as she stepped on me. “Clumsy!” I spat. “What can you even do right?” My chest tightened at the sight of the tears glinting in her eyes, but she wiped them off harshly and sprinted towards the stairs. Is he why she's running? Because she couldn't stand being in the same room with him? She didn't actually think he'd see her differently after how everyone treated her in school, right? “Where do you think you're going?” I called before I could stop myself. “You didn't even acknowledge my guest. Where are your manners?” Her gaze darted to Travis for the first time since he walked in. She swallowed hard and bowed to him like a pathetic dog. “It's not our first meeting, is it?” Travis broke the silence, the corner of his mouth turned up ever so slightly as he watched the scene. “No need for formalities,” he finished. “E-excuse me then.” She left without sparing either of us a second glance. I didn't even realize how hard I was holding onto the cutlery until Travis pointed to it. “You okay?” “I just remembered that I have an appointment,” I lied. Travis seemed to buy my lie. Once we finished eating, we said our goodbyes. Neveah finally came out of her hiding as if she had been waiting for Travis to leave. Not once did she come out while he was here, and now that he was gone, she finally came out. “She's not planning to meet him secretly, is she?” A thought invaded my head and my muscle clenched. “Checking to see if he's still here?” I broke the silence. She jumped at my voice as if she hadn't expected me to still be here. “I was just going to get some water,” she blinked, feigning innocence. It's always that fucking innocent face. I wondered if it was the same one she kept to gain men's attention. When Travis was fucking her in the janitor's locker or when she allowed all those foolish boys to stick their… I didn't dare finish the thought as my wolf snarled in disgust. “You're a pretty good actress, I must confess.” She batted her lashes, confusion gleaming in her eyes or maybe they were a mockery of how easy it was for her to play with my intelligence. “W-what are you talking about?” she stuttered. “What am I talking about?” I snickered. “I-I will just go…” She ran into the kitchen, leaving me behind to do exactly what with my anger? I strode in after her, chasing out the maids with a single bark. “Too ashamed to leave now?” I frowned. She opened the fridge, still ignoring me when I yanked her closer. “Kael…” She froze before she could finish whatever she had to say. That was the first time she'd call my name and for some weird reason it sounded so good, I wanted her to say it again. My wolf let out a satisfied cry and my sense of smell had never been stronger. The scent of her shampoo hits my nostrils; a combination of mint and vanilla, and for a moment, I wanted to bury my head in her hair and sniff it like a… What the hell is wrong with me? I took a step back, leaving a little space between us. “What? Can't defend yourself?” My eyes bore into hers, and I got to see how beautiful her doe eyes were. She blinked once. Twice, and standing so close to her felt like a fucking torture. My wolf wanted to lean in and pull her into his embrace. It took everything in me to remain in control, but when she parted those delicate lips to speak, my eyes dropped to it and they looked so inviting. “Cat got your tongue?” I leaned closer to her, biting back the moan that almost escaped my mouth and I mentally cursed my wolf. Fucking asshole. “Claim her or I would,” he warned. I knew this was my cue to back out, but when she raised her head ever so slightly, brushing her cheeks against mine, my wolf won in that moment. My hands dropped to her thigh, and even in the fucking hideous dress, I could feel the softness of her body against my palm. She shuddered from my touch and the ugly dread of rejection clawed my skin. She'd jump every time I touch her, but would rather lick those ass? I was about to push her away when the sound of her muffled moan came out as a cough and I lost all sense of rationality. I dragged the gown up until my hands came into contact with her skin without any disturbance and her breath hitched. “This is what you wanted, isn't it?” Her ragged breath filled the air as I trailed my hands on her smooth skin, memorizing every inch like a map I wanted to tattoo in my head. “My attention,” I breathed into her ear, and her lips parted, words long lost and the only sound I could make out were her moans. “Now that you've gotten it…” I whispered, teasing her entry, as I pinched her walls through her soaked pants. She snapped her thigh shut with a gasp. My hands now closed between her legs as the smell of her arousal filled the air. “Spread your legs,” I commanded. She hesitated for a moment, eyes searching mine as if I wasn’t the same man that scared the shit out of her just a moment ago. She was taking so long and my patience was running thin. Just when I intended to yank her legs open, she parted them ever so slightly, her eyes locked onto mine as if asking if she made the right decision and my wolf released a groan. “For someone who was pretending not to want my touch, you seemed like you had anticipated this moment your entire life.” I spread her legs wider, standing between them as my fingers teased her cunt through the wet material.
