As we find out more about the main protagonist and his world, I find myself getting more and more attached to both. The writing is first class, the detective story very well laid out but in my view the main achievement of the author is making it all appear so real. You really walk the Berlin streets with von Trelow while looking over his shoulder. You can feel and smell the febrile atmosphere of revolution in a country that is close to breaking apart, and you really, really start to care about the characters as living breathing people. No cardboard cutouts here, all of them have motivations you can understand, and most of them just want to get by - or salvage something from the chaos. This is historical (crime) writing at its best. Please keep them coming!"
