PRESS RELEASE !!!!!! Date: Sunday, 1st March 2026 (Time: 10:00 AM Harare Time) RE: FARMERS OF THOUGHT CONDEMNS MIDDLE EAST WARS AND THE PROFITEERING FROM HUMAN SUFFERING Farmers of Thought, an assembly of thinkers, cultural custodians, and advocates for African sovereignty, expresses profound outrage and unequivocal condemnation of the ongoing wars ravaging the Middle East. We stand in solemn solidarity with all victims of these conflicts while exposing the underlying forces that perpetuate cycles of violence, destabilization, and human suffering across the region and beyond. These wars are not accidents of history nor inevitable clashes of civilization. They are calculated enterprises driven by the insatiable appetites of global capitalism, where oil fields, gold reserves, rare earth minerals, strategic sea passages, and lucrative post-war reconstruction contracts take precedence over human lives. The Middle East has become a marketplace of misery, where the bombing of cities is followed by the bidding for contracts to rebuild them—a grotesque cycle of destruction and profit that enriches the few while devastating the many. We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the flagrant disregard for international law and the sovereign rights of nations. The repeated violation of diplomatic norms, the dismissal of genuine negotiation efforts, and the deliberate escalation of tensions reveal a world order where might masquerades as right. When powerful nations bypass the United Nations, ignore the International Court of Justice, and unilaterally impose their will through military force, they do not merely break laws—they shatter the very possibility of a stable, peaceful international community. The machinery of war has become a profitable industry. Banks extend credit for armaments; insurance underwriters mitigate risks for defense contractors; weapons manufacturers post record profits while hospitals overflow with civilian casualties. This military-industrial-financial complex cannot continue to cash in on human lives without moral reckoning. Every missile launched represents a dividend paid; every city reduced to rubble signals a reconstruction contract signed. This is not security—it is systematic predation. We observe with deep concern the accelerating transformation of the global financial system, including the aggressive push toward cryptocurrency frameworks and centralized digital currencies. These shifts, orchestrated by powerful financial elites, come at an astronomical cost to national sovereignty and individual freedom. The same forces that profit from war are engineering economic architectures that will further entrench global inequality and surveillance capitalism. Africa must recognize that this "long agenda" serves interests far removed from the wellbeing of our peoples. Africa stands at a perilous crossroads, squeezed between Western imperial ambitions and Eastern expansionist strategies. The wars in the Middle East are not distant conflicts—they are harbingers of what awaits nations that control strategic resources yet lack the military power to defend their sovereignty. From the Sahel to the Horn of Africa, from the mineral-rich heartlands of the Congo to the coastal waters of the Indian Ocean, our continent faces similar pressures. The playbook being executed in the Middle East—economic sanctions, proxy warfare, resource extraction, and regime manipulation—has been deployed against African nations for generations. We reject the false narrative that these interventions promote democracy or human rights. History demonstrates that such justifications mask deeper objectives: the control of energy supplies, the domination of trade routes, the extraction of critical minerals, and the maintenance of geopolitical hegemony. When Libya was destroyed, it was not for freedom—it was for oil and the elimination of an independent African financial vision. When Iraq was invaded, it was not for weapons of mass destruction—it was for petroleum and strategic positioning. The pattern is unmistakable, and Africa must remain vigilant against its replication on our soil. Farmers of Thought calls upon African governments, civil society movements, and the global diaspora to resist the normalization of war as policy. We FOT, demand the immediate cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, the genuine pursuit of diplomatic solutions, and the establishment of an international order where law applies equally to all nations—powerful and weak alike. We further demand: - An end to the profiteering from conflict by financial institutions, insurance conglomerates, and defense contractors; - Transparent accountability for violations of international law, regardless of the perpetrator's economic or military status; - The exclusion of Africa from becoming the next theater of proxy wars between competing global powers; - A rejection of economic systems that prioritize profit over people, extraction over sustainability, and domination over cooperation. Peace cannot be imposed through occupation, nor can it be purchased through reconstruction contracts. True peace emerges only when the dignity of every nation is respected, when resources serve human development rather than elite enrichment, and when international law binds all equally. As custodians of thought and conscience, we affirm that a world built on greed, militarism, and selective justice is a world built on sand. Africa has suffered enough from the machinations of distant powers. We will not stand idle while the same forces turn the Middle East into a graveyard and prepare similar fates for others. The harvest of war is bitter. It is time to sow different seeds. You can't write your glory with the blood of the innocent on the wounds of a nation.
