📣 EXHIBITION ALERT: Just in time for the 100th anniversary of Black History celebrations, Chicago-based artist Shani Crowe (@crowezilla) pays tribute to the Pan-African flag at MoCADA. Widening the aperture of the tri-colored symbol of African diasporan identity and liberation, Crowe uses textured hair and ornaments as central modalities in this bold collection of photographic portraiture, yarn tapestry, beading, and performance. Entitled Shani Crowe: Red, Black, & Green, this exhibition marks Crowe’s first solo exhibition at MoCADA, and her second showing since the public art debut of her BRAIDS series a decade ago in 2016. This exhibition takes Crowe's work higher, transforming Black radical imagination into an inclusive affirmation for the collective beyond its traditional conservative center. On view beginning February 6 - March 29. Link in bio for details. Happy Black History Month! 🎨: "SIS FLAG" by Shani Crowe, 2022.
