🔱 Captain Sylas Mortivar A tale of a cursed, rotten-fleshed sailor – Episode ? Chapter Unknown (Bonus Material) – “The Strategy of Ashes” ----------------------------- The men believe I sit here to rest. They think the fire warms me. They think the silence soothes me. They think I am merely weighing troop movements and supply lines. Let them believe it. The crackling of the flames drowns their whispers, but I hear them still. Fear travels faster than sound. It clings to armor, seeps into steel, trembles in the hands that polish swords pretending they will matter. They are preparing for war. But war is not what is coming. If this is not a war of flesh, then we will fight it with faith. The Cross will stand where cannon falls. I did not believe Elias when he spoke of Scripture as weapon. I may have to now. I study the northern horizon beyond the tents. Beyond the horses. Beyond the reach of our torches. The darkness there is thicker: not empty, but patient. Watching. Waiting. They speak of hope. They speak of holding Milano. They speak of muskets, formations, reinforcements. Fools. You do not fortify against rot. You do not outmaneuver decay. You do not stab the sea and expect it to bleed. My fingers press against the cold iron of my gauntlet. I feel the metal. I feel the weight. But beneath it… I barely feel my own pulse. That frightens me more than the enemy. If the plague spreads as I suspect… if the reports from the north are true… then this is no invasion. It is not the French. It is not rebellion. It is not even entirely human. It is the work of something older: something the English whispered of long before we chose to listen. Federico Borromeo stood before us in the cathedral and said: “We must kiss the Cross. Place true armor in the front to hold them back, and muskets behind. Discipline before fear.” He believes faith will steady the line. And perhaps he is right. But if cannons cannot stop them… if powder only slows them… then we are not fighting flesh. The men behind me laugh. One speaks of his wife in Firenze. Another sharpens his blade as though steel could carve certainty into the world. They do not yet understand what is coming. And I am not sitting here in doubt. I am calculating. If Captain Sylas Mortivar commands the dead as the rumors claim, then we cannot defeat him by strength alone. The undead do not fear death. They do not rout. They do not starve. But they do splinter. And they do fall when their master falters. So the question is not how to defeat the army. The question is how to reach the sailor. Which line must break first? Which village must be sacrificed? Which bridge must burn to draw him into open ground? Because sometimes… to survive the tide… you must force the storm to reveal itself. A horn sounds in the distance. Not ours. Too slow. Too hollow. I rise. “Extinguish the fires,” I command quietly. Confusion spreads across their faces, but discipline wins. One by one, the flames die. Darkness swallows the encampment. Even the horses grow still. If the dead are near, they will seek warmth. Let them search in vain. As the final ember fades, I look toward the unseen horizon. Not in madness. But in clarity. At dawn, Milano will either stand… or become the first sacrifice. Ad tenebras et lucem. (Through darkness and into the light.) The green mist has not yet risen. And I pray it never does. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ Some doors were never meant to open. Some coffins should never be touched. Since it belongs to the fantasy genre, you can consider it an alternative timeline. • Did you know King Jacobus I was the real king of England back in that day between 1603-1625. He lived through (1566-1625) • King Jacobus I himself wrote a book called Daemonologie (1597), a philosophical text advocating for the existence and hunting of witches, demons, and dark magic. His court was obsessed with the occult, which gives immense weight to the Contagion plot. • London experienced frequent and devastating Plague outbreaks during this period (e.g., 1603, 1625). Quarantines and "Plague Orders" were standard state policy, forcing doors to be locked and people barred from entering cities — mirroring the strict military response in Chapter 13. • Jacobus I was the staunch promoter of the Divine Right of Kings, meaning his authority came directly from God. This extreme belief system makes his descent into paranoia and madness (when facing the Contagion) exponentially more tragic. • The English and the Dutch were fierce naval, trade, and colonial rivals throughout this century. The high political tension mentioned in the War Chamber (about intercepting Dutch convoys) was a constant, dangerous reality. • And did you know London had ancient walls all around till the 18th century? The massive gates and fortified walls dating back to Roman times were still essential features of the city, serving as the primary control and quarantine points King Jacobus I would rely on. • King Jacobus I oversaw the military transition from older weaponry to the matchlock muskets, driving the modernization of the English army. This modernization is the very military solution that fails against the supernatural Contagion in the story. • Did you know that Prince Maurits van Nassau was the son of Prince Willem van Oranje? • To finance this project.. a new Dark Fantasy Horror saga between 1560 and 1660, I’ve created music under Tigris Mind on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube and Itunes.. also worldwide distributed. It carries 1 album of this story called: “The Curse of Captain Sylas Mortivar” with 12 Tracks. And another for the broken souls under us, 2 more albums: “Qui Me Suscitavit / 15-1-2026 (20 Tracks)” and “Neon Skies / 15-4-2026 (12 Tracks)” for people that like music are planned to launch worldwide, special created to promote peace in the world and for those that seek inner healing. • As the Saga continues more albums about this story will come out in the future. • I officially started my own company in the Netherlands: Tigris Mind Records & Publishing. • To promote and finance my trilogy, I launched Tigris Mind on Spotify as a creative extension of this world. • My future goal is to help other fantasy writers bring bold, original stories to life: through editing, publishing, and development under my label. • Everything we create is aimed toward new ideas for the movie and series industry.
