Adventure Day Tour: Volcanic Lagoons & The Seven Waterfalls. ​Tailored for Hikers and Adventure Lovers ​This expedition takes you into the heart of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range for a day of rugged trails, local flavors, and hidden natural wonders. ​Pricing Structure ​Solo Explorer: $95 Two people : $50 per person ​3–5 persons: $39 per person ​Note: Meals and local guide fees are paid separately. ​Itinerary ​07:00 AM | Departure Prompt pick-up from your hotel or Airbnb in San Salvador. We head west toward the mountains as the morning mist clears over the volcanoes. ​08:30 AM | Breakfast at Izalco Pupusódromo Stop in the historic town of Izalco, located at the foot of the "Lighthouse of the Pacific." ​The Experience: Enjoy authentic pupusas cooked over wood fires. We recommend trying the pupusas de ayote (squash) or mora, accompanied by traditional hot chocolate or local coffee. ​Cost: Not included. ​10:00 AM – 10:30 AM | Apaneca & Laguna Verde (Optional ATV Adventure) Arrive in Apaneca, one of the highest towns in the country. ​The Destination: You have the option to reach Laguna Verde via ATV. This high-altitude crater lake is surrounded by lush cypress forests and coffee plantations. The water’s deep green hue and the silent, misty atmosphere make it one of the most serene spots in the region. ​Activity: Enjoy a rugged ride through mountain trails or a peaceful walk around the lakeside. ​12:00 PM | Traditional Lunch at Salcoatitán Plaza We head to the charming plaza of Salcoatitán, famous for its gastronomic variety. ​The Experience: Savor traditional dishes like yuca con chicharrón (served on banana leaves) or grilled meats. The plaza is centered around a centuries-old Ceiba tree, providing a perfect backdrop for a mid-day break. ​Cost: Not included. ​02:00 PM | The Seven Waterfalls Hike (7 Cascadas) Prepare for the highlight of the day—a trek through the tropical forest of Juayúa. ​The Hike: This 2-hour guided circuit takes you through a series of stunning vertical falls. You will hike alongside (and sometimes through) the water, witnessing the impressive "hidden" falls that pour from the volcanic rock walls. It is an immersive, moderately challenging experience that rewards you with incredible views and fresh mountain water. ​Local Guide Fee: $5 per person (Required). ​04:30 PM | Return Journey After the hike, we begin our descent from the mountains, heading back toward the capital. ​06:30 PM | Arrival in San Salvador Drop-off at your hotel or Airbnb. ​Essential Packing List ​To ensure you have the best experience on the trails, please bring the following: ​Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots or trail sneakers with good grip (surfaces can be slippery near the waterfalls). ​Clothing: Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothes. Bring a swimsuit if you want to dip in the waterfall pools and a change of dry clothes for the ride back. ​Protection: Biodegradable insect repellent and sunscreen. ​Gear: A small waterproof bag for your phone/camera and a refillable water bottle. ​Cash: Small denominations for breakfast, lunch, and the local guide fee.
