The Navigators Programme | A New Pathway to International Education Every year, academically capable children miss the opportunity to begin an international education because they have not yet developed the English needed to access the curriculum. At Astra Academy International School, we believe a child's potential should never be limited by their current level of English. That belief is the foundation of the Navigators Programme. Designed exclusively for students entering Years 5 and 6, Navigators is a purpose-built international school transition programme for academically capable students with little or no English. Unlike traditional EAL programmes, students do not spend the whole day separated from their peers, nor are they entered into mainstream lessons before they are ready. Instead, they become full members of the Year 5 and Year 6 community from their very first day, learning alongside their peers while receiving specialist teaching in English, Maths and Science. This enables personalised English development while ensuring academic progress continues through carefully scaffolded teaching matched to each student's academic ability and developing English. As their confidence, language skills and independence grow, students transition into mainstream learning when they are ready, not simply because time has passed. This is what makes the Navigators Programme different. It is not about waiting until English is good enough.
