Steal the full 25 requirements on the last slide! We call these “checks”, and we require all 25 checks on our Check Charts (see last slide) to be completed before students move up a grade level. Instead of getting letter grades in subjects (which are meaningless and unhelpful), we’ve completely revamped the rubric for graduating to the next grade. Swipe to read all 25- I hope you use these for your own family! 🩵 Financial literacy is a core life skill- it absolutely must be taught. Age-appropriate savings goals, stock market simulations, and monetary donations are all a major part of our curriculum. To quote one of our Alpha Grads, Austin Scholar, “Writing is not becoming obsolete in the age of AI. Its role in education just needs to transform.” Writing is still just as important than ever, especially when it comes to how writing can create and open up important opportunities. The pasta bridge workshop is one of my favorites!🍝 In the pasta bridge pictured here, it collapsed before holding 100 pounds. So the students had to start over and try again- and again, and again! There is an epidemic of parents over-communicating for their kids. This is one step towards student-led communication. We always tell our students that adults LOVE to help motivated kids. Now is the best time to leverage qualified adult mentorship! Here’s the full list for 5th graders! Even if your family can’t attend an Alpha School (we’re in 50 cities though, so there may be one closer than you think!), you can skill-build at home. - MacKenzie
