💔 A Mother, Her Son, and a Lifetime of Silent Suffering💔 Last weekend, this mama and her boy were surrendered to us. What we met wasn’t just two dogs in need - it was the unmistakable evidence of long-term neglect written across their bodies. They are severely emaciated. Mom weighs just 33 pounds when she should be closer to 60. Her son weighs 14.6 pounds - barely half of what a dog his age should weigh. Their ribs, hips, and spines are starkly visible beneath thinning skin. Their fur is patchy and damaged. Their feet are swollen and painful from standing on metal bars while sitting in their own waste. Their nails had grown so long that their toes curled sideways. Every part of their bodies tells the same story - chronic hunger, constant discomfort, and being overlooked for far too long. At yesterday’s vet visit, we learned just how much this mama has been enduring: - Bilateral bacterial eye infections - Bilateral bacterial ear infections - A golf ball-sized mammary tumor - Urine burns on her feet and legs from sitting in her own urine for prolonged periods - Pressure sores on hips from being confined to a crate too small day after day - Bacterial infections on her chin and feet Her son wasn’t spared either. He had bilateral bacterial and fungal ear infections and is also painfully underweight. And still… They are gentle. They are quiet. They are inseparable. Mom never leaves her baby’s side. Even while her own body was failing, she stayed close because protecting him was the only thing she knew how to do. He leans into her for comfort, because she is the only safety he has ever known. They didn’t cry for help. They didn’t run. They just endured. 💔 Today, they are clean. Warm. Fed. Safe. 🙏 But safety alone doesn’t heal infections. Love doesn’t cover diagnostics, medications, or surgery. Their road to recovery will require extensive veterinary care, ongoing treatment, nutritional rehabilitation, and time. As a small rescue, we cannot do this without our community. Sadie and Scout urgently need help with: - Veterinary exams, diagnostics, and medications - Treatment for multiple painful infections - Surgery to remove Sadie’s mammary tumor - Nutritional rehab and supplements - Ongoing medical care and supplies If you’re able to donate, please know every single dollar goes directly to their care. Now let’s show them what compassion, care, and dignity feel like. ❤️
