I used to wake up and think about money before I opened my eyes. Not in an ambitious way. In a scared way. Like, did that payment clear? Do they still want to work with me? Is anyone going to buy today? It didn't matter how good last month was. Every month started at zero. I’d send proposals, reach out, post something. Hope someone saw it. Hope they reached out. Hope they said yes. Hope they paid. Every single time. It felt like auditioning. Over and over. For the same part. In my own life. And the worst part? I was good at what I did. People got results. They told their friends. They left nice comments. But none of that changed the fact that every morning, I woke up not knowing if money was coming. The thing nobody tells you about working for yourself is that you trade a boss for a thousand bosses. Every client. Every customer. Every person who might buy. They all get a vote on whether you eat this month. I know that sounds dramatic. But if you've lived it, you know it's not. There's this thing that happens to your body when money is unpredictable. You never fully relax. Even when things are good. Even when you just had a great week. Because you know it could stop. One algorithm change. One dry spell. One month where people just don't buy. And you're back to posting harder, messaging more people, trying to figure out what's wrong. I wasn't building anything. I was just catching money as it fell from the sky and hoping the sky didn't run out. I didn't need to be rich. I just needed to stop doing math in my head at the grocery store. I needed to stop checking my bank account before saying yes to dinner. I needed my body to believe that money was going to show up next month. And the month after that. Even $500 that I could count on would've changed everything. Not $500 I had to chase. Not $500 I had to earn again from scratch. Just $500 that showed up. Because I'd built something that worked while I rested. I started looking at people who had that. The ones who weren't panicking. The ones who took Tuesdays off and didn't feel guilty. And I noticed something. They weren't smarter than me. They weren't working harder. They were running a different model. And with that… they had money that came back. Recurring revenue. Subscriptions. Memberships. Those words didn't mean anything to me for a long time. I just knew some people had built a thing that kept paying them. And I knew I hadn't. Every dollar I'd ever made, I'd had to go get. Personally. That day. I sold a website design, delivered it, and that was it. I sold courses, and people bought them once. Then I had to find new people. I did coaching, and when the sessions ended, the money ended, but the questions didn't. Constant boundary setting. Constant praying for the next paid session (or package, if I got lucky). I reached out to people, posted content, and it worked until it didn't, and then I had to reach out and post more. Nothing came back on its own. And I was tired. I started paying attention to what didn't make me tired. Helping people figure things out, showing them what worked, watching them try it and win, that gave me energy. Creating something once and having it help people over and over, that felt good. Building a space where people could come back and keep learning, keep growing, keep supporting each other, that felt like I was actually building something. Not just performing. Not just auditioning for the next dollar. Building. I started wondering what it would feel like to have 100 people paying me a small amount every month. Not a big number. Not fancy. Just something consistent. Something recurring. Whether I posted that day or not. Whether I was sick. Whether I felt like it. Just there. I want to tell you what happened when I built that. But first I have to tell you what I got wrong. I thought it had to be expensive to be worth it. “Charge my worth” as they all told me… I thought I had to create this big brilliant thing BEFORE I could launch. I thought people wouldn't pay unless it looked like a $2,000 program. So I tried to build a $2,000 program. And I froze. Because I didn't know how to make something worth $2,000 that wasn't a done-for-you advertisement service. And charging that much felt like lying. It felt like I was pretending to be someone I wasn't. So I didn't launch it. In fact, I tried. With a bootcamp. And mid-pitch my internet connection got lost. I had my sign. What if I charged what felt good? Not what the market would bear. Not what you could get away with. What actually felt true to me and my values. For me, that was a low monthly fee. It's what I'd pay to learn from someone I trusted. It's what wouldn't make me hesitate. It's what felt honest. And when I said it out loud, my body relaxed. I could build something worth a small monthly fee. I could make that promise and keep it. So I did. In the following 5 years, I built 7-figure low-ticket memberships with thousands of members. What started soft, slow, and just feeling like the right thing to do compounded quickly. Eventually, I would teach thousands about growing authentically without having to be an expert, and about selling low-ticket. I mastered running membership, mini offer, and subscription ads to the point where I run ads for the Skool platform itself. And I found my home on that platform with my main membership, Grow With Evelyn, which has over 2,500 members and currently makes around 63,000 USD per month. To be very honest with you… I never wanted to build a business. I just wanted a thing that pays me. Ideally to show up as that best version of myself wherever I can. And that forgives me on days when I can't. Something that lets me share my journey, experiences, and gifts. Gather people with aligned missions and values. People who contribute and carry the thing with me. Something bigger than myself. Priced small enough so I can hold it. And through that accessible pricing, big enough so it can more than hold me. I am not going to pretend that I never feel anxious anymore. Or that I don't have to work. But I tell you that I look around and back in time, and I feel so much safer now. I like what I do. In fact, I LOVE what I do. And people like and love it too. I'm not auditioning anymore. And I want the same for as many people as possible. That’s why I teach how to create, launch and grow memberships. The internet and many people are full of it. So I want to do things differently and give you a chance to make a decision from the inside. Join Grow With Evelyn with my 7-day free trial. Binge-watch everything. Download and keep what you like. Ask in the community how people are liking it or if I am full of it too. And then make your decision and see if the low-ticket, recurring revenue way of doing life and business is for you. See you inside. Evelyn
