#EverydayHero The "bench boy" never gives up! Fang Yuxiang, a freshman widely known as the "bench boy", took part in a freshman #militarytraining program at Hubei University on Monday. Hailing from Yuan'an county, #Hubei province, Fang had both his legs amputated following a car accident when he was two and a half. He has since relied on a small wooden bench as a mobility aid, and has insisted on attending regular classes with peers throughout his schooling. Optimistic and resilient, Fang has achieved outstanding academic results, even receiving honors like the National Outstanding Young Pioneer. He scored 586 points in the 2026 gaokao, China's national college entrance exam, and was admitted to Hubei University's Cryptographic Science and Technology program. Dressed in a standard military training uniform, Fang maintains an upright posture supported by his bench during drills. Having completed full military training in high school, he has declined any special accommodations. With unyielding perseverance, he stands in neat formation with classmates, fully integrating into the group with a spirited bearing.
