My dad wore a suit to the bank every day. Not a casual blazer. A proper suit. Pressed shirt, tie, polished shoes lined up by the door the night before. He worked at the bank, and he also ran his own business on the side. When I was old enough, I started helping him with the marketing for that business. Everything had to be professional. I picked it up like a second language. So when I started my own business years later, that word was still sitting in my head, deciding what I was allowed to put into the world. I would write a post. Read it back. Delete it. Too casual. Try again. Delete it. Too personal. Try again. Delete it. That is not how a real business owner sounds. Every time I sat down to create something, there was this invisible filter running in the background. Is this professional enough? Most things did not pass the filter. So most things did not get shared. For a long time I thought the problem was that I needed to learn more and get better. So I kept watching trainings. Kept telling myself I was almost ready to put myself out there. Until I bought one program that turned out to be complete trash. I will not name it. It does not matter. What matters is that I paid real money for it (like 7.5k) and within a week I knew I had been had. The training was empty. The promises were nothing. The community was a ghost town. And I felt something I had not let myself feel before. Shame. The kind that sits in your chest when you have to tell your partner what you spent. The kind that makes you avoid your own bank account for a few days because you cannot bear to see the number. Here is the part I think about a lot. That shame got bigger than the other shame. Bigger than the fear of looking unprofessional. Now there was a worse thing in the world than being unprofessional. The worse thing was being broke after buying a program that was nothing. So I posted. Most of it was messy. Some of it was cringe looking back. All of it was actually mine. Then I did it again the next day. And the next. I would love to say I had some breakthrough. That I read a book. Sat with a mentor. Found my voice. That is not what happened. What happened is one shame got swapped for another. The new one was just loud enough to push me past the old one. That is the whole story. A boring one. But good enough that it got me to 65,000+ customers and over 9 million in low-ticket sales. I think about this every time someone tells me they are not ready to put themselves out there yet. Most of the time, what they actually need is permission, and the insight that the new professionals killing it in online business do not look anything like corporate would approve of. My most successful ads, for myself and for Skool (yup, I run the ads for the platform itself), are just ugly and off brand. BUT.... they WORK! What I can tell you is that the polished version of you is too busy editing to ship anything. The version that builds is the one who would rather post something imperfect than stay invisible for one more month. If you are sitting on something right now. A membership you have not launched. A community you have not opened or talked enough about. Just know the "professional" thing is to get the heck going. If you are ready to trade it in, that is what we do inside Grow With Evelyn. The membership where I show you exactly how I built mine. Real traffic, real ads, real recurring revenue. You get the full relaunch course, the traffic challenge across organic, Meta ads and YouTube, the AI artifacts and sales page kit, the branding system, and the templates and trainings I actually use myself. There is a 7-day free trial, so you can look around before you pay anything. If today is the day you stop running the filter, the link is below. I will see you inside
