FOMO Secret Cinema returns this week with one of our strongest programmes yet, moving from cult animation and early Kubrick to major studio sci-fi, classic Hollywood, Soviet cinema, and one of the year’s most talked-about new films. Tuesday is Animation Tuesday, opening with the adult anime WICKED CITY and René Laloux’s dreamlike French sci-fi film GANDAHAR. Wednesday is Kubrick Wednesday, with a double of THE KILLING and PATHS OF GLORY, two 1950s films that show Kubrick becoming Kubrick. Thursday brings CITIZEN KANE and PROJECT HAIL MARY, a big-screen crowd-pleaser for people who like their sci-fi cinema with real intelligence behind it. Friday continues the sci-fi run with Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW followed by 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, exactly where it belongs, on a cinema screen with even bigger sound. The weekend keeps going with WEST SIDE STORY, Bi Gan’s new film RESURRECTION, which has Cannes on fire, a Soviet Sunday double of BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN and Georgian classic THE PLEA (aka VEDREBA), and a special documentary event on Art Spiegelman and MAUS with audience discussion afterwards.
