Radical Acceptance means unconditionally accepting the way things are in order to see what is really happening so the situation can be dealt with and/or adapted to in the best possible way. It's an idea from dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) which I think can be really useful. In this week's Clear Thinking I explain why I think it's useful and how you might help clients who have a problem accepting certain aspects of reality. The head-in-the-sand technique might work in the short term, but we need to help our clients thrive in the medium and long term too. You can also download a free radical acceptance worksheet from the article.
