Life with cirrhosis sucks. Can’t eat much. My stomach doesn’t work right. Doesn’t process vitamins from food. I’ve lost a lot of muscle and have pain in my joints—even just sitting. No energy. No air. If I had truly realized I was doing this to myself, I would have stopped drinking. But it comes on slow. Please—stop. Or at least moderate. Avoid painkillers for hangovers—they kill your liver too. I’m only sharing this in the hope that someone sees what can really happen. I always thought this stuff happened to other people. But anyone can be the “other people.” 72 hours before I discovered I had cirrhosis, I was “healthy” without any signs of 15+ years of moderate alcohol use catching up to me other than advanced wrinkles... But, I started to notice a yellowing in my eyes. Now, for years I had a very slight, dull, “feeling” on my right side - I say feeling, because it truly wasn’t painful, it was just ‘there’. I ignored this, as well as a multitude of other alarming red flags - such as GI issues and vomiting - thinking I was too young for it to be serious. I convinced myself that the yellowing was normal, my liver was simply shedding toxins it had been holding on to, and I would be okay since I wasn’t drinking. This was about 3 days into my 'sober stint.' By day 9, the yellowing had only gotten worse, and at the begging of my loved ones I finally agreed to go to an urgent care. At urgent care they took blood and urine samples. The doctor came in and said the words I was dreading to hear, “there’s a serious problem, you need to go to the emergency room immediately.” I was admitted with a hemoglobin of 6.9, my bilirubin was 15.2 (normal is around 0.40 or less), my other liver levels were in the hundreds. They weren’t sure how I was still walking and functioning. The doctors could not believe I hadn’t experienced life-threatening withdrawals when I stopped drinking 9 days prior. I still can’t explain that part. I spent 11 days in two hospitals. I was transferred halfway through to a hospital that specialized in liver transplants when it looked like that was inevitable. At the worst, they told my family that without a transplant I wouldn’t make it more than 4 months, my MELD was about a 26, I believe. My liver went from not functioning at all, to somehow trickling back to life. After slow improvements, they finally discharged me on a laundry list of medications and instructions - the most important of which was NO DRINKING, AT ALL, EVER AGAIN. They made this part very clear. Then, I was sent to a nutritionist who’d guide me through my dietary changes. And yes, there it was, Elizabeth, my nutritionist, immediately told me to stop drinking as well. During a routine visit with Elizabeth, I just straight up told her: “Listen Elizabeth, I’ve been doing this for 11 weeks now, and you’re doing a fantastic job, but I just can’t give up drinking for the rest of my life. I just want to be able to have a glass or two, and let my hair down.” To my surprise she said; “I don’t expect you to give up drinking, nor do I think you are required to. But, I did challenge you so your liver could restore a little. After all, compared to others, your liver is simply more sensitive, and needed a little rest. But, even with a sensitive liver, there are nutrients that can help you break down alcohol faster, and reduce and restore the damage to your body, including your liver.” She went on to say; “most nutritionists don’t know about these nutrients, because it’s not taught. As you can imagine, most nutritionists are taught that alcohol is simply unhealthy, and that’s that. Just avoid it. But, we all know that avoiding alcohol (forever) isn’t always an option, not even for me as a nutritionist. That’s why I went on to research how nutrients could repair and restore the damage from alcohol. And, after lots of trial-and-error, I’ve put together just the right thing.” Suddenly, it felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Not just because my nutritionist also wasn’t a saint (although that was part of the relief haha), but first and foremost that I could drink, and take care of my liver at the same time (or so I thought) I started taking it. The first week, I still didn’t dare to drink, but the second week my sister came over with her daughters, and yes, I couldn’t resist. We shared two bottles together, and it was sooo much fun. I’m not too ashamed to say, I missed having those evenings with her. But, I dreaded the next day, because I had my check up with my doctor. He was going to do my blood readings (again), and I felt I had failed him. This was the real test to Elizabeth’s liver-”booster.” To everyone’s surprise… My ALT dropped to 32 U/L—solidly back in the healthy range. My AST moved to 25 U/L—another healthy number. My GGT improved 35 U/L—also within normal limits. My doctor was surprised to say the least and said, “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!” It felt incredible to have some control over my health again—without having to give up my social life. In awe I listened as he said “you know Brian, I think you deserve a drink.” And so, I celebrated (always listen to your doctor people). But, my doctor had still scheduled one last blood test 4 months from now, and to be honest, I went straight back to my normal life. I had forgotten about my liver problems (or just pretended to be oblivious), I didn’t see or think about my doctor, and I didn’t see my nutritionist Elizabeth. But, despite all of that, I did continue to take Elizabeth’s potion. And, as the weeks passed, and my sister and I got our buzz on I still felt a light anxiety for that final blood-test. Would it be as bad as it was before I started all this? Finally, the day came. The ultimate test. Can I drink ’normally,’ and have a healthy liver? I showed up at the doctor’s office like it was Judgment Day. A small voice in my head kept saying, Remember what happened last time. Yet another part of me was hopeful—after all, I had faithfully stuck to Elizabeth’s “liver potion” even when I wasn’t exactly ‘holy’ about the rest of my lifestyle. My doctor walked in with the results, a curious smile on his face: “Well, Brian, it looks like your liver is still very happy. Your ALT is at 28 U/L (last time it was 32 U/L). Your AST is at 22 U/L (down from 25 U/L). Your GGT is at 33 U/L (slightly lower than 35 U/L). All of these are well within normal limits—nice work!” I blinked back surprised. “You mean… even with all my social gatherings, I’m… I’m still good?” He chuckled. “Whatever you’re doing, keep it up. It’s clearly working.” Now, I know this is just my story, and I don’t know how this will end up for other people. After all, we’re all slightly different, but if you worry about your health, and your liver cause you have the occasional drink… I do recommend checking out this potion. It has changed my life to a point where I don’t have to worry about drinking anymore. I can just do me, knowing that my liver, and body are in fine shape. Something that used to be a very anxious topic for me. Check it out if you’re interested. I asked Elizabeth, my nutritionist, to explain to me how her liver potion works, and this is what she replied. Well, it contains 8 alcohol counter-acting ingredients, which I’ll cover shortly. When digested, alcohol is broken down by the liver, and detoxified by glutathione… also known as the master antioxidant. Glutathione neutralizes the toxic and destroying effects of acohol on your body. But, during this process, this master antioxidant gets depleted. Giving free roam to the toxins. But, studies have shown that you can now counter this. Multiple research projects, including those from the National Institute for Health, prove that N.A.C. (a supplement) boosts glutathione levels, helping the liver detoxify alcohol faster. N.A.C. helps to neutralize the poisonous toxins much faster. Protecting your liver, and body from damage. But, there are more promising findings. The American Liver Foundation has found that Milk Thistle Milk when digested into the body, covers the liver with a protective layer, preventing toxins from entering and damaging the liver. If the liver does get damaged, Milk Thistle actually helps the liver to heal faster! And, on top of that, The University of Maryland Medical Center also confirms that Milk Thistle boosts the production of the master antioxidant glutathione. Enabling your body to break down the poisonous toxins even faster. You rarely find this combination though, NAC, and Milk Thistle combined, but, there’s a product out now, which contains Milk Thistle, and N.A.C. (+6 more alcohol-counteracting ingredients!) It’s specifically designed for people who want to drink, but don’t want to worry about the long-term effects. It only contains ingredients that are scientifically proven to repair and restore the long-term negative effects of alcohol. I’ll link it shortly, but first let me tell you what else it contains. A landmark study published in The Journal of Neuroscience found that DHM reduced the negative effects of alcohol in models and helped restore normal function more quickly. DHM aids your body’s detox pathways, helping to break down alcohol byproducts, so you can bounce back faster and smoother. But, there's more. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study by IJPM showed that high-concentration ashwagandha extract significantly reduced stress and anxiety levels. alcohol inflicts stress on your body. Ashwagandha is proven to reduce these effects. Fifth out of eight ingredients is 5-HTP. Some of the most formidable clinics, such as the May Clinic have found that 5-HTP supports healthy serotonin levels. This stabilizes your mood and helps reduce the jitters or anxious feelings after a night out, sometimes also referred to as hangxiety. Then, there’s also Thiamine, a B vitamin that gives you energy and clarity. The National Institutes of Health has found that alcohol depletes this B-vitamin, but that by supplementing it, you help yourself stay energized, clear-headed, and better equipped to bounce back the following day. Lastly, there's Potassium and Sea Salt, Organizations such as the Mayo Clinic stress that replenishing potassium and sea salt is vital after dehydration, from for example drinking. Doing so restores your hydration and electrolyte balance, giving you more energy. All of these 8 powerhouse alcohol-counteracting ingredients can be found in Elizabeth’s formula. But, upon clients’ requests, Elizabeth has worked with several doctors specializing in nutrition, and alcohol damage to make her liver potion available to more people, not just her own clients. Wit the help of Michael Smith, expert in brain health, mood stability, and alcohol-related nutrition, and Michelle Anderson, who has over 10 years of experience treating patients with substance abuse. Their formula, Daily Restore, is rated with 4.80 out of 5 stars by its users. "I used to feel sluggish every morning, even if I only had one or two drinks. Since taking it, I actually feel refreshed when I wake up. My mood is better, and my energy levels are way more stable. It’s also easy to take" - Mark T. "I’ve been drinking for years, probably more than I should. I’m not quitting, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m wrecking my body every time I have a few. It makes me feel like I’m at least taking care of myself while still enjoying my life. Since taking it, I feel like my body bounces back faster, I sleep better, and I don’t wake up as groggy." Mary M. If you want to drink, AND protect your body with scientifically-backed ingredients that are proven to counteract the negative long-term effects of alcohol... then click the link to get Daily Restore. If you drink moderately, I recommend getting a large supply. She introduced me to a supplement that she had researched extensively. To my doctor’s surprise, my blood test results improved drastically: My ALT dropped from 85 U/L to 32 U/L. My AST moved from 60 U/L to 25 U/L. My GGT improved from 65 U/L to 35 U/L. My doctor was surprised and said, “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!” I will link the product from Elizabeth in the description for anyone interested in maintaining liver health while enjoying social drinking. It has helped me personally. Click the link in the description to learn more.
