Rest in peace to hip-hop legend Rob Base who died after a private battle with cancer just days after his 59th birthday. The rapper, who was half of the iconic hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, rose to fame in the 80s when the pair released the song “It Takes Two,” which became a hip-hop anthem that remains a staple of the culture to this day. The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Songs chart in 1988 and helped the duo’s debut album of the same name reach platinum certification. The “It Takes Two” album also included hit songs “Joy and Pain” and “Get on the Dance Floor.” Base passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, according to a statement posted to his official music Instagram account. “Rob’s music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world,” the statement said. “Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten.” RIP, Rob Base 🤍 🕊️ Share your favorite memories of his music in the comments.
