Ad text
I am blessed to have many adopted sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews. Shortly after becoming Minister of Music at The Historic Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, I met Manuel Melendrez. Over time, he led much of his family to become a part of our church family. One Sunday morning after worship service, Manuel approached me and asked, "May I call you Dad?" I asked him why, and he shared that he had never met his biological father. He told me that he had been watching me and wanted to adopt me as his father. His words took my breath away, and my eyes quickly filled with tears. From that moment, I embraced not only Manuel but his entire family. At the time, his grandmother was lovingly raising nine grandchildren, and I was honored to become a part of their lives. I have had the privilege of watching Manuel grow from an elementary school student into a young man attending Bastrop High School. On Father's Day, following worship services, Manuel presented me with the enclosed poem. It was one of the greatest gifts a father could receive. Experiences like this remind us that we never truly know who is watching our lives, learning from our example, and choosing to follow in our footsteps. That is why it always pays to do what is right, even when doing wrong may appear easier or more rewarding. Our actions have the power to influence generations, often in ways we may never fully realize. To God be the glory. Happy Father’s Day Today I want to take a moment to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Even though we’re not related by blood, you’ve become someone I look up to and someone I’m grateful to have in my life. To me, being a father isn’t just about sharing the same last name or being family by birth. It’s about being there, caring, guiding, and making a difference in someone’s life—and you’ve done all of that for me. I thank God for bringing you into my life. Some of my favorite memories are the times we spent together, whether we were talking, going out, laughing, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Those moments may have seemed ordinary, but they meant a lot to me. They brought joy to my life and gave me memories that I’ll always carry with me. I remember all the conversations we’ve had at church and the time we’ve spent together. Through those moments, you’ve taught me things without even realizing it. You’ve shown me kindness, patience, faith, and what it means to care about others. You’ve been someone I could talk to, someone I could learn from, and someone I could trust. There were days when we’d go out and have fun, and I always looked forward to those times. We laughed, joked around, and made memories that still bring a smile to my face. Looking back, I realize how special those moments were. Life moves quickly, and sometimes we don’t realize how much a person means to us until we stop and think about it. When I think about the impact you’ve had on my life, I feel nothing but gratitude. Thank you for every encouraging word you’ve spoken. Thank you for every lesson you’ve taught. Thank you for every prayer, every conversation, every laugh, and every moment you’ve shared with me. Thank you for taking the time to be a part of my life when you didn’t have to. Your kindness and generosity have never gone unnoticed. One thing I admire about you is your faith. Seeing your commitment to God and your willingness to share that faith with others has been inspiring. Through church and our time together, you’ve helped remind me of the importance of trusting God, staying strong, and continuing to grow in faith. For that, I am truly thankful. I know that no one is perfect, but you’ve been a blessing in my life in more ways than I can count. You’ve shown me what it looks like to care for people, to lead by example, and to make a positive difference in someone’s life. Those are things I will always remember. So on this Father’s Day, I want you to know how much I appreciate you. Thank you for the memories we’ve made, the lessons you’ve taught, the fun we’ve had, and the friendship we’ve shared. Thank you for being someone I can look up to and someone I am proud to call Dad, even if we’re not related by blood. I pray that God blesses you abundantly for all the good you’ve done. May He give you strength, joy, peace, and happiness in the years ahead. May He continue to guide your steps and bless your family. And may you always know that your kindness has made a lasting impact on my life. Happy Father’s Day. Thank you for everything. I am truly grateful for you, and I will always cherish the memories we’ve made together. With love and gratitude, From someone who is thankful to call you Dad.
