A selection from Boucheron's Carte Blanche High Jewellery collection came to Bangkok for a private viewing, and our Assistant Digital Editor, @kaloklao, was on the scene. The collection is Impermanence: six botanical compositions by creative director Claire Choisne, 28 wearable pieces, over 18,000 hours of work. Ikebana translates as giving life to flowers, and rather than hold a bloom at its peak it lets time pass. Choisne set the brief in 2018 with Eternal Flowers: make eternal that which is ephemeral. Across the six, light drains away until the last is black. Two travelled. Composition n°5 is thistles and a rhinoceros beetle, 2,880 hours. The heads were 3D-printed in plant-based resin, a first in High Jewellery, which left the setters no metal to grip: the workshop sewed each diamond into one of the plant's cells instead, more than 600 in the large head. The larger thistle detaches as a brooch or crossbody jewel on a bio-sourced cord, the smaller as a double-finger ring, the beetle as a brooch. Composition n°4 is cyclamens, oat, a caterpillar and a butterfly, 4,279 hours. Nearly 700 rose-cut diamonds follow the bend of each petal, black lacquer along the edges, the calyx beneath each bloom in rock crystal. The caterpillar is white gold set with diamonds and black spinels, its hairs mimicked with brush fibres, its body articulated so it appears to crawl. The cyclamens pivot into a bracelet or brooch, the oat becomes a hair jewel, the caterpillar a brooch, the butterfly goes in the hair. Other highlights included a Plume de Paon collar, the peacock feather Boucheron first worked in the 1860s, here carried on the open form Frédéric Boucheron drew in 1879 and fitted with a leaf spring so that it closes with nothing at all: the asymmetry gave it its name, Point d'Interrogation. And from the New Maharajahs, a diamond brooch built around an emerald cabochon. That collection is Choisne's reading of the 1928 order from the Maharajah of Patiala, 149 designs, the largest ever placed on Place Vendôme. @boucheron #RobbReportThailand #Boucheron #IMPERMANENCE #HighJewellery
