"Nobody touches you in this house." Garrett Graham blocked the upstairs hallway, his arms crossed over his chest. Downstairs, the music shook the house. My older brother Dakota is the hotshot rookie on the Briar hockey team, and tonight was his welcome party. Dakota worries about everything, especially his teammates hitting on his younger sister. Before anyone opened a beer, Dakota asked Garrett to keep an eye on me. Garrett took the job too far. He stood in the living room and announced to the entire team that I was off-limits. If anyone tried to hook up with me, Garrett promised to bench them for three games. The guys laughed, but they knew he meant it. Ten minutes ago, a rookie named Miller came over to the kitchen counter. We were talking and having a good time. Miller asked me to dance. Before I could answer, Garrett stepped right between us. He shoved Miller away and told him to get outside. I felt humiliated. I am nineteen years old. I do not need a babysitter, and I do not need my brother's arrogant captain dictating who I can talk to. When Garrett walked upstairs to get away from the crowd, I followed him. "You made a scene," I told him. "Miller was just being friendly." "Miller was trying to take you upstairs," Garrett said. "And I gave Dakota my word." "You don't care about your word to Dakota," I said. Garrett stopped talking. Three days ago, Garrett came to my house. He asked me to help him sketch a design for his hockey helmet. We spent three hours sitting together on my living room rug. He didn't act like my brother's protective captain then. He sat close to me. He watched my mouth whenever I spoke. When he finally walked me to the front door, he stood there for ten minutes looking like he wanted to kiss me. I brought that up now. I told him he was a hypocrite. I asked if he banned the team because of Dakota, or because he was jealous. That made him snap. Garrett stepped into my space and backed me against the hallway wall. He put his hands on the wall on either side of my head, trapping me in place. "You think I want to be Dakota's loyal captain?" he asked. He kept his voice low. "Watching Miller touch your arm downstairs made me want to throw him through a window. The rule isn't for your brother, Liv. It's to keep me from losing my temper." I wanted him to kiss me. I hated that I wanted it, especially after he embarrassed me in front of the whole house. Garrett leans in until his chest touches mine. "Go back downstairs, Liv. Before I forget Dakota is in the house." You decide what happens next. #interactivestory #sagaland
