Ad text
One-person agency. Solopreneur. Design studio. Call it what you like—the name doesn’t matter. What is difficult is convincing yourself and others that you’re not just another person with a MacBook Pro and a lukewarm americano taking up space in a coffee shop. Of course, a lot of this is just how you market yourself. That’s obvious. But a great deal of it is also what you deliver, how you deliver it, how often you’re delivering and crucially, the reputation you’re building over time. I don’t sell myself at a studio rate all the time. Certainly most of the time, but I still have clients that are looking for freelancer rates. And that’s okay. Give a small portion of your time to those clients because they are great for filling the gaps, and they can also be a lot of fun and reprise amongst bigger, tougher projects. Springer’s Final Thought? If you’re operating like a business back of house, operate like one front-of-house. The two go hand-in-hand, and when work and process run in tandem, great things happen.
