This thought came to me (surprisingly) after listening to a Huberman podcast with Dr. Roger Seheult on the importance of sunlight. Jokingly, and referring to the health benefits of simply being outside, Huberman exclaimed, “this is not about biohacking, it’s sunlight!” Sachin Patel is also about this - "biohacking benefits the self," he noted, "it's not about anyone else." To him, the environment you are in is foundational - just going inward doesn’t solve anything. This isn't to say that an inward focus on your body is a bad thing, but Place as Medicine is about more than you. It's about looking at the places we live, and how they can help us and those around us be healthier. By making your home, kid's school, or neighborhood healthier, you're benefiting more than just yourself. This can be viewed as daunting, but it's also empowering to know that simple tweaks like playing music, getting outside in the sun, knowing what to look for when the time is right for a new mattress, or even knowing to ask questions can have a measurable impact on your health. We don't talk about our environments in the same breath as food or exercise when it comes to health, but we also need to step back and look at the fish tank - not just medicate the fish. @thesachinpatel @medcram @hubermanlab
