I'm not someone who talks about this stuff normally. But I've had dry cracked elbows for probably the last eight or nine years and just kind of accepted it. My wife would buy things, I'd use them for a bit, they'd sit in the bathroom cabinet and eventually get thrown out. Nothing ever really worked. Not the CeraVe, not the intensive repair stuff, not any of it. It'd feel fine for a bit and then be straight back to cracking and peeling within a few hours. I ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole about six months ago trying to actually understand why nothing was working. The short version of what I found out is that dry skin isn't actually a hydration problem in the way I always thought it was. Your skin makes its own oil. It's called sebum. It's what keeps everything intact and flexible. After your mid thirties your body just starts making less of it. And the moisturisers we've all been using don't actually replace it — they sit on top, feel good for a bit, and evaporate. The problem underneath never goes away because you're never actually addressing it. Beef tallow is apparently molecularly identical to that oil. Like your skin recognises it as its own. So instead of sitting on top it actually absorbs and does what your skin's oil is supposed to do. I was pretty sceptical honestly. It sounds like one of those things. But I tried it anyway — a brand called Bare Ritual, four ingredients, that's literally it. My elbows within a few weeks looked completely different. Not managed. Actually different. I've been using it on my face too now which I never thought I'd say. Anyway. If you've got the same thing going on and nothing's been working, it might be worth looking into.
