With support from the World Bank LIFT Project and technical collaboration from the Financial Times Liberia Woos Indian Investors. National Investment Commission Executive Director, Melvin Sheriff Explores Opportunities in India. Liberia is actively seeking to attract Indian investment, a drive led by the National Investment Commission (NIC) Executive Director, Melvin Sheriff, with support from the World Bank’s LIFT Project and technical backing from the Financial Times. This strategic outreach aims to highlight Liberia’s growing investment potential, particularly in sectors where Indian capital and expertise can play a transformative role. A key focus of this engagement is StarAgri, a leading Indian agritech company founded in 2006 and headquartered in Mumbai. StarAgri delivers end-to-end agricultural value chain solutions, including scientific warehousing, procurement, trade facilitation, collateral management, and financing services. With operations across 19 Indian states and over 2,100 warehouses, the company has begun expanding its footprint into Africa with operations already ongoing in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania. Mr. Vishnu Gupta, Head of Trade Finance & Business Operations at StarAgri, expressed interest in an introductory meeting as the company explores potential entry points into African markets. Liberia’s strategic location and evolving agribusiness landscape present a compelling opportunity for StarAgri’s regional expansion. Earlier today, the NIC Executive Director met with Mr. Jayant Chatterjee, Business Head and Chief Operations Officer at StarAgri. Mr. Chatterjee noted that this outreach was of great significance to the company as it explores opportunities in Africa. StarAgri's strong presence in international agritech markets, coupled with Liberia's positioning, offers a strategic avenue for expanding its footprint in West Africa. This initiative underscores Liberia’s strong commitment to positioning itself as a competitive and investor-friendly destination for Indian businesses, particularly in agriculture and technology-driven sectors that foster economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development. The NIC is scheduled to meet with 16 large Indian companies and business associations across the Agriculture, Light Manufacturing, Energy and Logistics sectors over the next 5 days. These engagements signals a strong effort by Liberia to position itself as a key destination for Indian investment, particularly in the vital agricultural technology sector, which can drive economic growth and job creation.
