I Went To Home Depot For Mulch… …and left thinking about emergency preparedness. Last Saturday morning, I stopped at Home Depot to grab mulch and a few bags of soil for the backyard. Nothing unusual. I was waiting in line behind an older man loading his cart onto the checkout belt. A shop vacuum. Extension cords. Heavy-duty work gloves. A fire extinguisher. And three identical black medical bags. The cashier smiled. “Looks like you’re ready for hurricane season.” The man laughed. “No.” “I just don’t like being caught unprepared.” She scanned the first bag. “You buying these for work?” He shook his head. “One stays in my truck.” “One stays in my wife’s SUV.” “One stays in the garage.” The cashier looked surprised. “Three?” The man nodded. “I spent most of my career working construction.” “I’ve seen enough job sites to know accidents don’t care what day it is.” That caught my attention. The cashier held one of the bags. “I’ve already got a first aid kit.” “So did every crew I ever worked with,” he replied. Then he asked her something simple. “When was the last time you actually opened yours?” She laughed. “I honestly couldn’t tell you.” He smiled. “Most people can’t.” “They buy one… put it on a shelf… and never think about it again.” I looked over at my wife. She gave me the same look I was already thinking. Our first aid kit had probably been sitting untouched for years. The cashier asked, “So what’s different about these?” The man rested his hand on the bag. “It’s not about having more stuff.” “It’s about having the right stuff available before help gets there.” He wasn’t trying to sell anything. He was just answering her question. Before he walked away, he said something I’ll probably remember for a long time. “Prepared people don’t expect emergencies.” “They just know ordinary Saturdays sometimes stop being ordinary.” That sentence stayed with me all afternoon. When I got home, I pulled our first aid kit out of the bathroom cabinet. It wasn’t empty. It just wasn’t what I thought it was. That search eventually led me to the same trauma kit he had in his cart. Not because someone sold me. Because one simple conversation made me realize there was a difference between owning a first aid kit… …and actually being prepared. 👇 See what I found here https://www.shop.1sthour.com/13688167_tfakht_ord?_ef_transaction_id=&oid=662&affid=65&source_id=FB
