When I was a student at Moody Bible Institute, I took a class called "Ministry to Women in Pain." The book I loved most in this class was "Suffering is Never for Nothing" by Elisabeth Elliot. It is a book that ought to be read time and time again. What I loved so much about it is that she never diminishes suffering that we experience even on a daily basis. Her definition is very simple: “wanting what you do not have or having what you do not want.” All suffering is suffering no matter how big or small. The focus is then to not be afraid to give our suffering over to the Lord; he is not afraid of our suffering or feelings. All things work together for good—this means there is a creator who cares about us enough to not let us suffer without purpose. I love this book and you should read it; you will love it too.
