Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother said in reply, โNo. He will be called John.โ But they answered her, โThere is no one among your relatives who has this name.โ So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a tablet and wrote, โJohn is his name,โ and all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God. Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea. All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, โWhat, then, will this child be?โ For surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel. ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ก The world says your life is an accident. God says you were known and loved before you were born. Today we celebrate the birth of Saint John the Baptist, one of the few saints whose birthday the Church honors. John was chosen for a mission long before he could understand it. God had a purpose for his life, and every detail unfolded according to the Lord's plan. Zechariah learned that God's will is not something to resist but something to trust. When he obediently wrote, "John is his name," his tongue was freed and he praised God. Obedience opened the door to blessing. The same is true for us. We may not be called to prepare the way for Christ as John did, but we are called to bring Christ into the lives of others through our words, actions, kindness, and faith. Sometimes we wonder whether our lives matter. Today's Gospel answers that question with a resounding yes. God has a purpose for every person He creates. No one is forgotten. No one is overlooked. No one is without a mission. Like Saint John the Baptist, we are called to point beyond ourselves and lead others to Jesus. ๐ฃ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐๐ฅ Lord Jesus, thank You for creating me with purpose and love. Help me trust Your plan even when I cannot see the path ahead. Give me the courage of Saint John the Baptist to prepare the way for You in the hearts of others. May my life always point to You and bring glory to Your holy name. Amen. Saint John the Baptist, pray for us. By~ www.UtahMission.com
