Ok, this is your sign to stop underestimating kangaroos. 👀 🌳 🦘 Chester Zoo (@chesterzoo) recently welcomed a tiny Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo joey, one of the rarest kangaroos on Earth. He just popped out of his mom’s pouch for the first time. Native to the rainforests of north Queensland and New Guinea, this species lives in the treetops, leaps up to 30 feet between branches, and is much smaller than its land-loving cousins. Unfortunately, the Goodfellow’s tree kangaroo is listed as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss and deforestation. Not a new story. But this newborn male, born weighing just a few grams, has been growing safely inside his mom’s pouch, monitored with tiny pouch-cams that give scientists a rare look at early development.
