I wanted abs. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I don't give a flying fart in space if you think it is vain. Life is a journey and one that we should enjoy in pursuit of any goals we PERSONALLY value. I mention this because I've had a number of clients come in and feel a bit shy about admitting they wanted to get abs (like they'd been told before it was a vain and silly goal) AND because of a comment I got on my how to get a six pack video I shared the other day to FB... The comment said... "I wish that having abs wasn't such a focus of the fitness industry. It gets depressing and is in itself not that meaningful of a goal." I don't believe one size fits all. Or that we should all want or need the same aesthetic. Honestly, many of my clients don't necessarily care about getting abs. It's not their goal. And I love them for it. I want to meet every client where they are at. It's why I have a ton of injury videos (my heart's nerd-dom, being honest), videos for gaining muscle, aging more functionally and even dealing with menopause. I want to empower people to reach any goals they PERSONALLY have. But we should never downplay what someone else may value. There is NOTHING wrong with having an aesthetic goal. Life is about taking on new challenges. Pushing ourselves to be the best version. The healthiest version. The fittest version. Life is about constantly learning and growing...that's the fun...there is ALWAYS a new goal we can conquer. And whatever we personally deem meaningful IS MEANINGFUL. If you don't want abs? FABULOUS! But don't shame someone who does. Their goal is valid too. Let's all focus on pursuing our own meaningful goals and appreciate we each want different things out of life and that is A-OK! So do not be embarrassed by your goal. Love that life gives you the opportunity to pursue your best, healthiest, happiest self whatever that means to you!
