PHYSICALIST-ANNIHILATIONISTS DENY SALVATION OCCURS NOW What have Glenn Peoples, Chris Date (both ministers of the Rethinking Hell movement), Nancy Murphy, Joel Green (both affiliated with Fuller Seminary), Leroy Froom, Norman Gulley (Adventist theologians), and Edward Fudge all have in common? They teach a false gospel with a false Jesus. Read that again. It is no small matter at hand. These ministers were not and are not part of orthodox, Bible believing, historic Christianity because of their affirmation of a false worldview known as physicalism. Sadly, many modern day ministers in the weak and worldly ecumenical movement accept them as brothers in the faith. Even the famous Christian and Hollywood actor Kirk Cameron recently invited Chris Date to have a round table discussion as if he were conversing with a faithful Jesus follower who just happened to have a secondary difference on the doctrine of hell. Cameron probably was not fully aware or with the understanding that Chris Date believes in a different Jesus and gospel than Bible believers. Physicalism is much more than just a view about annihilation in hell. Physicalism alters the doctrines of Jesus and the gospel, which are truly fundamentals of the faith. DR. GLENN PEOPLE OF RETHINKING HELL For example, Dr. Glenn Peoples, a Rethinking Hell minister and teacher (see www.rethinkinghell.com & www.rightreason.org ), denies that believers experience any change inwardly when converted to Christ and regenerated because for physicalists there is no distinct soul to be renewed/regenerated. That redefines humanity and denies the power of the gospel to right now renew the inner person-soul (see John 3:1-16; Rom. 1:16; 2 Cor. 5:17). It is a different gospel (see Galatians 1). These teachers do not affirm the historic truths of Christianity. Physicalism ruins the doctrine of salvation as well as historic Christology. They do not walk in communion with the true evangelical church. Mature Christ followers should evangelize/teach them just as they would a Jehovah Witness minister. In physicalism, when a believer dies that person ceases to exist, and thus has no ongoing conscious union with the Lord. The Bible in Romans 8 promises believers that nothing can separate them from the Lord, not even death (see Romans 8:30-39). Yet in the false religion of physicalism, death does in their view separate the person from the Lord. In death, the person does not go to heaven to be with Jesus. Instead the physicalist heretic teaches that the believer ceases to exist, is eradicated, and in such condition that believer has no life whatsoever until some future point in resurrection. This violates the gospel and denies the promises Jesus made to all believers. FALSE TEACHERS INFILTRATING CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES? The Rethinking Hell ministry and these teachers affirming physicalism seek to infiltrate Christianity with their major heresies (see 2 Peter 2). These teachers do not embrace the Jesus of the Bible, the gospel of the Bible, or the Bible promise of experiencing the beginning of salvation and eternal life now upon belief in Jesus Christ. Salvation only occurs in the future at resurrection, after one dies and ceases to exist. EVERLASTING LIFE PRESENTLY EXISTS FOR ALL BELIEVERS The gospel of Bible believing of Christianity teaches that when a person believes now that person has eternal life at that moment. Death does not rob that believer of life with Christ Jesus. Dr. Edwin A. Blum has rightly said, "A believer’s death issues a new life. In fact, the life of a believer is of such a quality that he will never die spiritually. He has eternal life (John 3:16; 5:24; 10:28), and the end of physical life is only sleep for his body until resurrection unto life {for the earthly physical body}. At death the spiritual part of a believer, his soul, goes to be with the Lord (cf. 2 Cor. 5:6, 8; Phil. 1:23) (Edwin A. Blum, Gospel of John, in The Bible Knowledge Commentary, eds. John Walvoord & Roy Zuck, p. 314). " To die physically as a believer means one continues on in life with Jesus Christ (see Luke 16). The essence of the person, the soul/spirit in Christ does not dissolve, end, cease to exist, and/or cease in conscious awareness. The person in Christ has eternal life at the moment of justification and that life carries the believer to a new gain through death (see Phi. 1:21). In the false heresy of physicalism that Dr. Peoples and these other physicalists like Chris Date, and Nancy Murphy teach, the believer has no gain in death, it is a loss of any and all life at that moment. No intermediate state of heaven exists for believers when they die physically. As Chris Date has said, "because I'm an anthropological physicalist, I anticipate no longer being conscious after I die. I'll be gone. Kaput. No more." Furthermore, he has said, "the only way to have any sort of life after death is by resurrection" (Facebook post of Chris Date and Bible Brodown Podcast show). What life one does live in while on earth is lost at death with no ongoing conscious existence. Consequently, even the gospel believed, in their doctrinal system, gives no immediate benefit to the one who has physically died. This is the evil reality in the sinful doctrine of physicalism. The great blessing and hope that death has no power or sting over a believer is stolen by this Satanic system of philosophy. THE DIFFERENT JESUS OF PHYSICALISM Of course, the physicalist does not just say this about the believer. It also happened to Jesus Christ. When Jesus died, he too ceased to have any form of life until resurrection. The false Jesus that the physicalists worship had no ongoing human soul that remained conscious during death. He was either annihilated in his whole person (as Dr. Glenn Peoples has taught, and thus a binity instead of a Trinity existed for 3 days), or his whole human nature loses all life with no consciousness during physical death and thus the hypostatic union is ruined, changed, or broken. In either case, the Jesus they worship is not the Jesus that Bible believing Christians worship who retained soul consciousness while his flesh that died rested in the grave until resurrection. Even the resurrected Jesus is different in physicalism. The physicalist version of Jesus had to be newly created at resurrection because the first Jesus was annihilated or eradicated in death. The conscious awareness of that Jesus dissolved and no longer existed. So God had to newly create their Jesus at resurrection. Their second Jesus did not come to existence through virgin Mary. Their second Jesus was created directly by God at the moment of resurrection. THE BIBLICAL VIEW OF JESUS IN HISTORIC CHRISTIANITY However, in the Bible believing Christian worldview, our Jesus died in the flesh and his person, his soul-essence nature, remained in conscious unity with his deity nature (one person in two natures; see 1 Peter 3:18-19) and then reunited to his flesh in the grave at the time of resurrection. Physicalism should not be seen as a secondary matter of the faith. To claim no life exists beyond physical death highlights a major worldview difference between biblical Christianity and liberal, progressive, heretical philosophy that undermines the fundamentals of the historic Christian faith. MATURE FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST WILL DEFEND CHRIST Any and all who love, cherish, and value biblical Christianity should not see this movement as evangelical. There is no such position as “evangelical conditionalism” when physicalism is affirmed. 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns believers that partnership with those in corrupt doctrine should not occur as it ruins good character. If a Christ follower will not partner with a Jehovah Witness minister because they have a different Jesus then neither should one partner with a physicalist minister as they too have redefined who Jesus is, what the gospel is, and what salvation means. Truly these physicalist-annihilationists are rethinking hell, Christ, the gospel, and redemption. ___________________________________________________ #chrisdate; #glennpeoples; #rethinkinghell; #annihilation; #hell; #nancymurphy; #joelgreen; #gospel; #salvation; #heresy; #edwardfudge; #leroyfroom; #physicalism; @topfans
