Perch by V.O.Z.Architects and Designers Project Perch is located along a busy secondary road in a fast-growing urban neighbourhood, where constant traffic, noise, and activity shape the surroundings. In response, the design of this playschool prioritises safety, privacy, and a carefully controlled connection to the outside environment. An inward-looking planning approach protects children from the external chaos while still allowing natural light to enter through thoughtfully placed openings. The building takes the form of a solid concrete volume resting above a sweeping, curved base. This contrast between the rigid upper block and the fluid ground plane creates a distinct yet contextually sensitive identity. Around the windows, a band of reflective ACP cladding offsets the raw concrete, subtly mirroring fragments of the surroundings and reducing the visual heaviness of the structure. At the ground level, a curved wall supported by circular columns encloses a covered play area. This edge provides both protection and openness, allowing children to move freely within a safe boundary. Linear slot openings along the curved surface maintain visual connectivity with the outside while ensuring security is not compromised.
