A few weeks ago I had a meeting with one of our meat industry bodies, and I walked out of it feeling pretty deflated. I genuinely thought they would be supportive of what we’re doing, maybe even excited by it, and open to being involved in some way. Instead, it felt like if you’re not one of the 3 major retailers, you’re just not that important. When I look at what we’ve built, it’s not small. We’ve created a network of some of the best farmers across the country and opened up a completely new market for them. We’ve taken the paddock to plate model and scaled it in a way that hasn’t been done before. There have always been farmers selling their own beef direct, but what we’ve built is something much bigger than that. It really has become an industry movement. A big part of what we do has always been about more than just selling meat. I don’t normally get too bothered by a 'no', but this one did knock me around a bit. I think because I care so much about this industry and genuinely want to see it supported properly. But I also understand that when you’re doing something different, when you’re pushing against the grain, it’s not always going to be received the way you hope. That’s just part of building something new. So we’ll just keep doing what we do. Telling stories, supporting farmers and feeding families like yours. We’re having a crack at shifting an industry, and I truly believe we are, thanks to you. Thanks for backing us and our farmers. 💚
