🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Flowers in the Attic - V.C. Andrews Flashback Friday and I’m sorry… this book is absolutely UNHINGED. I cut my thriller-loving teeth on Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and V.C. Andrews, but revisiting Flowers in the Attic? Yeah… this one really said “let’s traumatize an entire generation” and meant it. If you somehow don’t know the story, it follows four siblings hidden away in their grandparents’ attic after their father dies, all so their mother can secure a family inheritance. What’s supposed to be temporary turns into years of confinement, neglect, and some seriously disturbing abuse as the truth about their family slowly unravels. This is one of those books where you keep thinking “it can’t get worse than this” and then it absolutely does. It gets much worse. Re-reading it now, I fully understand why this had such a chokehold on readers. It’s dark, messy, uncomfortable, and completely addictive in that can’t-look-away way. It’s clear to see why tv and film adaptations never quite land… this story goes places that are just hard to translate to screen. If you haven’t read this one, you kind of need to—so many of today’s thrillers owe something to this level of bold, boundary-pushing storytelling. But seriously… check your trigger warnings. Have you read this one? What thriller books did you grow up on? 👀 . . . #FlashbackFriday #ReadingWithBrian #Bookstagram #DarkReads #VCAandrews
