Globally, more than 500 million people don't have the resources they need to manage their periods. Unsafe toilets, a lack of clean water and stigmas around periods have a far-reaching impact – and can disadvantage women and girls throughout their lives. Since 1981, WaterAid have reached 28.5 million people with clean water, and 29 million people with decent toilets. In Burkina Faso, menstrual health management training has helped Madina and her classmates feel more confident in dealing with their periods.
