I've had this same little bump under my eye for like 3 years. Same spot. Every time. I'd notice it in the afternoon, sometimes when I'd walk past a mirror, and think... okay there it is again. I asked my dermatologist. She said it was probably stress. I asked my GP. She basically shrugged. So I just... added it to the list of things my body does that nobody can explain. Because if you have hashis, you know what that list looks like. The fatigue that doesn't go away no matter how much you sleep… The weight that won't move even when you're barely eating… The brain fog that makes you feel like you're trying to think through wet concrete. And then just... random stuff. Stuff you stop even mentioning to doctors because you already know what they're going to say. "Your labs look fine." "This is just part of having a thyroid condition." "Have you tried reducing stress?" Like... yes. I've tried reducing stress. Thank you so much. ======== So a few months ago I posted in one of my Hashimoto's Facebook groups. Just a photo of the bump. And I wrote something like "has anyone else ever gotten this? Same spot, always comes back, doctors can't tell me what it is." I honestly expected like two responses. I got over 60 within a few hours. Women saying: "oh my god I have this EXACT same thing" “Same spot." "Mine comes back every evening" "I've had mine for 5 years" Like genuinely I felt crazy reading it, because I'd always thought it was just me. But then one comment stopped me completely. It was from a Dr. Christi Thompson. She's a functional medicine doctor who works specifically with Hashimoto's patients. And she'd seen this question in the group before apparently. So I'm just going to copy paste what she wrote because honestly she explained it better than I ever could: ======== "This is actually something I see really commonly in my Hashimoto's patients and it's one of the things I wish more women knew about. That bump isn't random. It's not stress. It's not something weird your skin does. It's chronic inflammation that has nowhere to go. Here's what's actually happening: Your liver is responsible for converting T4 into the T3 your cells can actually use. Not the T3 in your blood test. T3 in your CELLS. Those are two very different things. When your liver gets overloaded... and it gets overloaded very easily in women with Hashimoto's because our bodies are already under so much immune stress... that conversion basically slows to a crawl. In fact recent studies show that up to 91% of women with hashimotos have a sluggish liver. And when conversion slows down, inflammation builds up systemically, your body has to push it somewhere. And for a lot of women it comes out through the skin, always in the same spot, because those skin cells become hypersensitive from years of it. The hive is your liver waving a flag. And here's the part that frustrates me most as a doctor: most women with Hashimoto's who still feel terrible despite medication... despite 'normal' labs... it's because nobody has addressed the liver. They give you selenium. They give you zinc. They tell you to eat clean. But if the liver pathway is blocked, those minerals have nowhere to work. It's like pouring water into a pipe that's completely clogged. Doesn't matter how much you pour. You have to open the pathway first. Then give your body what it needs to actually do the conversion. That's why so many of you feel like nothing works. Because you've been given step two without anyone ever doing step one." ======== I sat with that for a while. Because she basically just described the last 4 years of my life in one comment. The selenium I'd taken for months. The zinc. The diet changes. The supplements my naturopath recommended. All of it doing basically nothing. And I'd blamed myself for it. Like maybe I wasn't consistent enough, maybe I was doing it wrong, maybe my Hashimoto's was just too severe. But the pathway was blocked the whole time. Like... I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was just missing step one. ======== So I messaged Dr. Thompson directly and asked her what actually fixes the liver pathway. She said there's an herb called milk thistle that's been used for centuries for liver support. But she was really specific... she said the regular milk thistle you find at CVS or whatever isn't concentrated enough for women with thyroid issues. "You need the clinical grade extract. The kind where the silymarin is at 80% concentration." And then after the liver pathway is open... THEN you give the body the minerals. But in liquid form, not capsules. Because women with Hashimoto's typically have damaged gut lining so capsules just sit there and don't break down properly. Liquid absorbs directly. She said: "It has to be in that order. Liver first. Then minerals. Do it backwards and you're back to square one." ======== Then she sent me this liquid formula that a lot of her patients are using now with the exact same ingredients she mentioned. I ordered it kind of half expecting nothing, because honestly at this point I'd been disappointed enough times. ======== Week one I didn't notice much. Week two something was... different. I don't know how to explain it except my mornings felt slightly less like I was dragging myself out of a swamp. Week three I realized I hadn't seen the bump under my eye in a few days. I kept waiting for it to come back. It didn't. Week four my husband said "you seem like yourself lately" and I started crying in the kitchen because I didn't realize how much I'd missed being that person. By week six I had energy in the afternoon. Like actual energy. Not just "less exhausted than yesterday." I went for a walk without planning it. Just... felt like going. I can't remember the last time I did that. ======== I went back to the Facebook group and posted an update. The comments were full of women saying they'd seen Dr. Thompson's original reply and ordered the liquid formula too. "The bump is gone." "First time in two years I don't need a nap by 2pm." "My hair stopped falling out as much." "I actually WANTED to exercise yesterday. I don't know who I am." "My doctor wants to reduce my medication dose because my levels improved. First time that's ever happened." These are women who'd been struggling for years. Not because they weren't trying. Because nobody ever told them about step one. ======== If you have Hashimoto's and you've been doing everything right and still feel like garbage... If your labs are "normal" and you still feel like you're running on nothing... If you have this little bump that keeps coming back and you've always just written it off... This is what I wish someone had told me years ago. It's not you. The pathway was just blocked. ======== 📢 EDIT: My bad I didn't even mention the brand, so my DMs are full of women asking where can you get it, it’s called Pureveen.
