Significant excavation was required behind the existing granite wall to create space for garaging, access and lower ground facilities, all while maintaining the character of the site. The structure itself combines traditional construction with a steel frame to the upper levels, ensuring long-term durability in a harsh marine environment. Careful detailing, robust materials and high-performance glazing all play a role in protecting the building while maximising light and views. Sustainability is also built into the fabric of the house. High levels of insulation, solar panels and an air source heat pump all contribute to low running costs and long-term efficiency. A project shaped as much by how it was built as by how it performs.
