Some buildings are too good to lose. The Hayloft began life as a very dilapidated open-sided granite barn, completely hidden beneath ivy and slowly falling into ruin. Despite its beautiful granite walls, the structure was in such poor condition that saving it was far from certain. Working closely with planners, PF+A were able to secure permission to convert the barn into a family home — not an easy process, but one we felt was worth pursuing to preserve the character of the building. The project was then carefully renovated by Peter Falla and his wife Janice, with exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The result is a home that respects the original granite structure while providing a modern, sustainable place to live. Today the Hayloft features solar panels, battery storage and an air-source heat pump, helping make it energy efficient and economical to run. Most importantly, a building that might easily have been lost has instead been given a new life. The project was recently recognised with Best Single Residential Project at the Guernsey Property & Construction Awards 2025, something we’re extremely proud of. #Guernsey #GuernseyArchitecture #ArchitectureGuernsey #GuernseyProperty #GuernseyConstruction #ChannelIslandsArchitecture #BarnConversion #HeritageArchitecture #SustainableArchitecture #ResidentialArchitecture #ArchitectureDesign #PFArchitecture
