The two things that almost all spiritual teachers and books miss Shankaracharya, in his infinite wisdom, reveals the two elusive truths that elude our senses, experience, and intellect. If you apply common sense, you'll realize that one child is born into a wealthy family in a luxurious setting, while another is born on the street. How can the rewards of life be so drastically different when neither child has performed any karma? It is through common sense and personal experience that we come to understand the existence of past lives. We don't need spiritual books to validate this truth. One child exhibits exceptional qualities from an early age, while another child creates havoc wherever they go. It is evident that one has descended from heaven, while the other has emerged from hell. The torment experienced in hell is projected onto others on Earth. Through intellect and experience, we can also grasp the existence of other realms beyond our own. Again, no spiritual books are required to comprehend this reality. So why do you need the highest truths? Shankaracharya says , there are two things that you cannot ascertain independently. First is you cannot know Yourself . It is an impossible feat. It is impossible to know Yourself through experience, common sense and intellect. Knowing yourself is knowing that you are Atman. Secondly, you cannot determine the most crucial actions to expedite the Self-discovery of the Atman This is known as Dharma. These are the teachings of the great masters and the essence of profound books. Everything else is mere chatter from the sidelines. I have written a short book How to enter into superconscious state even if nothing is working for you in meditation that walks you through this process it is a quick read..
