As a clinical nutritionist, I knew postpartum hair loss was coming. I knew it was normal. I knew why it happens. I knew it usually peaks around 4 months postpartum. But knowing that and actually seeing more hair in the shower, on my clothes and in my brush are two very different things. Postpartum hair loss happens because pregnancy hormones keep more of your hair in its growth phase. After birth, those hormones drop and all the extra hair your body was “holding onto” sheds at once. It’s normal. But that doesn’t mean it feels easy. The good news? There are things I focus on to support my body through this phase: – prioritising enough protein each day – making sure iron, zinc, B12 and thyroid health are being looked at if needed – supporting stress, sleep and blood sugar where possible – being gentle with my hair and scalp – remembering that this is a phase, not forever One thing I’ve also been adding into my routine is Chief Nutrition collagen powder. I like it because it’s an easy, realistic way to add extra protein-building amino acids into my day when life postpartum already feels full enough. If your hair is still shedding more than your ‘usual’ after 6-7months postpartum, it’s time for some blood tests. If you’re in this phase too, save this post! #postpartumhairloss #postpartumjourney #postpartumhealth #postpartumrecovery
