Join Curator Dr Liz Boldt for a guided tour of "A Matter of Light & Depth" and explore how each of the nine artists has approached the exhibition’s theme. Bring the show to life as you encounter the works up close. Free entry - just turn up 11am every Saturday while the show is on: 25 July, 1 August, 8 August, 15 August, Eastside Gallery, 388 Worcester St. "A Matter of Light & Depth" runs until 15 August and brings intensity, mystery and lush beauty to Eastside Gallery. Nine local artists respond to the theme across painting, photography, sculpture, drawing and jewellery. Moving between translucence and opacity, the exhibition explores what we choose to reveal and what we keep in the shadows. Some lean into the pun on life and death; others play with surface and interiority, the frivolous and the meaningful, visibility and concealment. It’s a show of contrasts where light and depth invite reflection. Artists: Cam Robinson, Joel Calasin Jr., John Clare, Laurie Roodt, Lourie Torr, Megan Woodhead, Melanie Dougan, Owen Spargo and Sophie Brown. Mini Gallery artists: Anton Zamorkin, Colette Meehan, Jordan Willan, Keila Robin, Madelaine Barbarics and Rebekah Palmer. Open: Wed-Thu: 11am-5pm | Fri-Sat: 10am-5pm We offer 11 weekly classes & activities, run exhibitions and events in Eastside and the Mini and hire our spaces for arts activities and events evenings and weekends. We are committed to artist development through our exhibition programme and community development via participation in our creative spaces. We have 9 open call shows for local artists in 2026. In the last financial year we exhibited the work of 384 local artists. villageartscentre.org.nz
