Ad text
Traveling Saleslady is a big part of WHY I love classic movies so much. Because they are so joyfully absurd. It stars the iconic Joan Blondell as a genius saleswoman. The film is about a toothpaste magnate's daughter who joins forces with a crazy inventor to create cocktail flavored toothpaste. It's frivolous fluff for the sake of it and that's the best distraction...but it also teaches you about history. Which is a plus. Here's why I love it: - Joan Blondell plays another powerful, confident woman: someone on Letterboxd called it "peak 1930s girlbossing" - Glenda Farrell as the head of a drug company - A misogynistic toothpaste CEO gets his ass kicked by his daughter - Hattie McDaniel appears briefly but YES - An animated montage of traveling across the country, competing for toothpaste sales - Badass women in business For anyone who likes bizarre, obscure movies that make you laugh and seem strangely modern. But also for everyone. Because it's hilarious. #classichollywood #filmanalysis #fashion #letterboxd #classicfilm #moviehistory #1930s #greatdepression #womeninfilm #culturalcriticism #vintagehollywood #cinematography #criticalthinking
